EXERCISE looks like being the name of
S a m e f ° r the Headquarters.
At
present Lance Corporal Mac O'Keefe and
Privates Matt Blair and Cy Preece are
undoubtedly giving their all on Exercise
Odin Sun in Denmark.
° a somewhat more buoyant theme
Major Keith Fisher is enjoying Baltic
Waters on the Sailing Exercise Baltic
triangle. Adding insult to possible injury he has now been
renamed ' Key m a n ' of the Headquarters. Probable reason
being his forgetting to leave his much needed keys to his
much used cupboards to his much harassed Sergeant prior
to departure to the Baltic.
All hands are busily employed preparing for Exercises Red
Deer and Summer Sales. Gratefully Staff Ride VII is now
well behind us and more time seems to be available to con-
centrate on ' things to come.' However, don't tell that to the
Ancillary Inspection Team who firmly believe that some fiendish
DRO has extended a normal working day from eight to twelve
hours, Saturdays obligatory.
Absent on his PQS 2 is Captain Sam Slade to whom we
wish the very best of luck in his studies. Hopefully his unique
style of dress (not to mention his specially tailored shirts) will
not influence the results too much.
Did I mention his
spelingg??
Very little to say on sport this month except well done for
the fine performances put up by our golfing pro's Staff Sergeant
John Pascoe and Sergeant Tom Hart in the recent 3 Division
Open Championships.
Congratulations go to our young German Clerk Dagma on
her recent marriage to local lad Frank.
Sadly we say farewell to the DFAs wife Mrs Norma
Mitchell who has returned to the UK. Husband Ray will be
following in the not too distant future on completion of
tour.
Finally we welcome to our fold civilian Clerk Typist Helen
Kennett and Gill Griffiths and on attachment Private Cy Preece.

31 ORDNANCE
COMPANY
FIRST of all this month our congratulations go to Lieutenant
Peter Kearns on his marriage to Carol and to Private ' Yossa'
Hughes on his marriage to Deborah. We wish you all the
very best for the future.
In a recent football match with 33 Ordnance Company
our Stores Platoon under the watchful eye of their manager
Private Spike Wyatt did well to draw two all and the goal-
scorers were Corporal Foz Fazakerley and Private H. Jackson.
Meanwhile on the ; running front our two ' Company
Runners' CSM Thayre and Staff Sergeant Paul Dyson have
had a couple of runs this month which deservedly merit a
mention. First was the Hermanslauf, twenty two miles over the
Bielefeld Ridge between Detmold and Bielefeld.
This was
followed by the 1st RAOC (BAOR) Marathon at Dulmen where
both runners did extremely well with CSM Thayre seventeenth
and Staff Sergeant Dyson twenty third with times of three hours
twenty four minutes and three hours twenty seven minutes
respectively. The next big one is the Copenhagen marathon
but more of that next month.
During April a party of the company ably commanded by
our MTO Lieutenant Ray Le Var, took part in Civpop for
1 LI during which a few injuries were incurred by Privates
John Coward and Jones, never mind lads that was just a softener
for one in November. Lieutenant Ray Le Var gets another
mention this month firstly for being awarded the ' Golden
Maggott' while on Civpop and secondly for once again being
the man who pioneered the Route Card for our lads who went
up to Denmark.
On the departures and arrivals scene, we welcome to the unit
Corporal Tim Davis RAPC who takes over the appointment
of Unit Pay NCO from Sergeant Cox who departs for the
I7th/2Ist Lancers and sadly we say farewell to Lance Corporal
Paul Hocquard and his wife, hope you have an enjoyable tour
with the QRIH.
33 ORDNANCE
COMPANY
AFTER seeing Second Lieutenant Coveney's attempt at look-
ing like a Russian on the CO's Testex, the OC decided to send
him and the rest of his platoon on a border patrol so they
could see the real thing. The sights obviously impressed all
as they have been crying to go back ever since. Meanwhile
Winterboume Barracks has taken on the ' ghost town' look
again. Half of the Company are away on Exercise Roller
Ball with the RCT whilst half of the remaining half are in
Denmark on the Battalion exchange exercise. Exercise Odin
Sun.
Fortunately this month saw an influx of manpower and
enabled us to fill both commitments. We welcome Staff Sergeant
Anderson, Sergeant Jones, Corporal Sargison. Privates Jones and
Hunter to whom we also say goodbye as he lasted on!y twelve
hours in the unit before being ' stolen' by Battalion Head-
quarters.
The Dortmund Detachment has remained quiet with the
main event being Sergeant Dunning's move of quarter prior to
his Falklands tour. His wife Maureen, is pleased with the
move and was able to inspect her new quarter from the living
room window of her present quarter.
HEADQUARTERS
6 ARMOURED
BRIGADE
THE Headquarters were quick to accept the challenge of a foot-
ball match from 13 PC Squadron RE. Having finished victorious
in our previous encounters everyone was quietly confident, un-
fortunately things went wrong early in the match and the game
ended in victory for the Engineers. However, an enjoyable day
was had by everyone and there's always next time.
Congratulations go this month to Corporal Ian Clark on
his promotion to Sergeant, and his new appointment as Chief
Clerk G2/G3, and to Private Stuart Lowe on passing his B2.
With the BFT just over a week away everybody has been
out trying to knock valuable seconds off their times and come
the big day a one hundred per cent pass is expected.
STORES PLATOON 6 ARMOURED
WORKSHOP
THE Stores Platoon was saddened in March by the sudden and
tragic deaths of Lance Corporal Alan Greaves and Private John
Turner in a traffic accident. Both soldiers were from the Soest
Det of the Platoon and are greatly missed. Six members of the
Platoon attended the funerals, commiserations are offered on
behalf of the whole Platoon to the relatives and friends of both
soldiers.
The Platoon took part in the inaugural parade of 3 Ord-
nance Battalion marching with 33 Ordnance Company. During
the parade Staff Sergeant Bennie Gorbould was presented with
his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
Bennie Gorbould is in the news again. He has successfully
completed backloading a selection of Stores
to Stores
Platoon 6 Armoured Workshop from Stores Platoon 6 Armoured
Workshop. Well at least it saves FOD Dulmen a lot of un-
necessary work!
STORES SECTION 26 ENGINEER REGIMENT
WORKSHOP
WHEN we are out on Exercise Stormy Petrel III Corporal
Druid Owen is keeping a low profile as Store Section Rear
Party, (keep up the good work Druid), and Sergeant Roger
Rudd and Private Scouse Kieran are keeping the stores flowing
steadily out here.
Corporal Ed Watson, Privates Barwick and Dailey are kept
busy in the PC and A Trailer, mainly finding hot water for W02
Bowker's coffee.
Private Gaz Crosswaite, our trusty driver now knows his
way to almost every Store Section in the region, but still asks
for more ' Runs Out.'
We must not forget Lance Corporal Kev Finmore, who
managed to get off the Exercise by going away on his RPC 2
course, Good Luck Kev!
Last but not least we must mention the wives back home,
so for Donna Rudd, Viv Owen and Ann Finmore, take care and
we'll be back soon.
We await the results of the fiercely contested (and argued)
Golden Blanket Competition.
3 ARMOURED
DIVISION TRANSPORT
REGIMENT
SINCE the last notes the detachment has increased in strength
by twenty five per cent. In case you are wondering, that is one
person, who said statistics don't mislead! Sergeant Graham
Punchard and Corporal Jon Sharpe are now the URS for the
Regiment replacing REME storemen in this vital department
The wives and families are hereby notified officially that they
really are working all that overtime at the moment! Preparations
for Exercise Rollerball III are nearly complete, Staff Sergeant
Willie Hepburn who has been working in the URS will join
Captain Chris Hillier in 21 Squadron RCT to perform his
Combat Supplies role. Staff Sergeant Ron Gray has left us, on
promotion, for Fallingbostel—perhaps he'll now have time to
improve his handicap.
