Transcription Sergeant Tom Stevenson on seeing that he had also been
selected, promptly applied for permission to get married.
Records finally listened to Sergeant Geordic I'cndlctons
imprcssioncd pleas for a Posting Order. Now a happy man will
be wending his way to Bielefeld in July.
Staff Sergeant Steve Halliwcll is seriously considering
changing his name by deed poll. After numerous moves in the
last few months, he's now thinking of calling himself Pickford's.
Sergeant Micky Wilson is rapidly earning a name for him-
self. (Not a very nice one cither). As he weekly ' beasts ' the
Company on its Physical Training.
For some obscure reason Privates Charlie Brown and Derek
Strombcrg took exception to an attempted pickpocketing. Some
people have no sense of fun these days.
Private Steve Hinton is considering applying for a transfer
to the Parachute Regiment after his three week stay with them.
Finally. Captain Banficld wishes AG9 to note that he is
enjoying his short tour as OC of the Company during the absence
of Major Dobic on duty in the UK.

THE winter sports arc now over and every-
one is eagerly awaiting for the summer to
arrive.
Everyone has been very patient
waiting for Hong Kong's wettest period on
record to come to an end. Everyone that
is except Staff Sergeant Oscar Pcnnclls who
can't wait any longer and has decided to
spend his next two years in ' sunny' Lisburn. After dreaming
for months of far-off, exotic, interesting places Oscar finally
chose Headquarters Northern Ireland for his next posting.
Some of the cx-Lisburn contingency told him it didn't rain as
much in Ireland as it docs in Hong Kong! Oscar will need to
keep his umbrella and sense of humour.
Last month wc had yet another medal presentation in the
Senior Ranks Mess. Our computer expert WOI (SSM) Bob
Guild became old enough to qualify for his Long Service and
Good Conduct Medal. At the same time Staff Sergeant George
Storey received a framed citation from the mess members for
his thirty seven years service in the Army. Congratulations to
both of you.
The British Force Lebanon
THE Lebanese Summer has at last arrived and May has been
spent sweltering in Flak jackets and almost feeling envious of
all that rain in England. There was just one days rain in the
whole month and Sergeant Jim Brechin was the first to notice
it at 0400 hours. The Royal Engineers had drilled thirty two
holes in the roof to take the support bolts for our new rocket
screen and as one of the holes was directly above Sergeant
Brechins bed he ended up with his own personal shower.
Talking of beds ASU Cyprus very kindly supplied us bunk
beds, mattresses and sheets and after three months in camp beds
and sleeping bags these were gratefully received.
Being so far from home and slightly isolated wc mis-
takenly thought that visitors would be few and far between.
Not so, this month alone we have had Lord Carrington, Mr
Callaghan and Major General Langley. The first two visits
coincided with the presence of a BBC documentary team and
hopefully we will appear live in the not too distant future on
the ' Tuesday Documentary.'
The Israeli and Lebanese Governments signed the with-
drawal agreement on 17th May and: this was preceded by some
heavy shelling in the area to our South. As you will have
seen in the papers there is still a certain amount of fighting here.
Apart from the odd rocket into the building we have managed
to remain out of the line of fire and hope to remain so.
Corporal Jock Crilley has left us for AFSOUTH and
Corporal Bill McKinney has replaced him. There are rumours
that the new Staff Clerk can type. Captain Southworth very
kindly bought the whole Force two beers each but as he is now
an S02 G4 and an Acting Major he can afford it.
WOI
(SSM) Bob Cuild receives his Long Service and Cood
Conduct Medal from Brigadier Hodges in Hong Kong.
Staying in the Mess, the RAOC Officers, WOs and SNCOs
got together to dine out Comd Supply and his wife. Lieutenant
Colonel and Mrs Ncwby. It was the first time all the RAOC
had got together for a formal dinner and a good evening was
had by all. In fact two well known WOs had such a good
time that on their way home they met themselves going to work
the following/same morning! As a reminder of Hong Kong the
Colonel was presented with the traditional Chinese dragon.
This month of course all eyes have been on the promotion
board results. It is with great pleasure that we found the
names of W02 Bill Thomas, W02 Taff Rich BEM and Staff
Sergeant John Smith on the list selected for promotion to the
next rank. Congratulations.
This month the comings and goings naturally include our
new Comd Supply Lieutenant Colonel Barrett. Welcome to the
exotic? problems of Hong Kong. We also welcome Major
Downing S02 Sup (Rats and POL) and Staff Sergeant John
Smith the new CC G4 Qtg. Major Fleming has departed for
LE(A) and W02 Norman Eldridge made way for John Smith
by moving to G3 on promotion.
