In Group 'A' 16 Battalion 'A* finished top after beating 1 Ac Sp Unit and RAOC Headquarters UKLF. In group ' B ' 15 Battalion 'A' were comfortable winners beating 32 Ord Company ' B ' and St PI 3 Fd Wksp. Group ' C ' was the most exciting; 21 Ord Company needed to draw their last game against Head- quarters 5 Inf Bde to qualify but were surprisingly beaten, leaving the way open for 16 Battalion ' B ' to reach the semi-final on goal difference. Group ' D ' also had a minor upset when London Casuals held 32 Ord Company 'A' to a draw. How- ever 32 Ord Company proved the better overall and qualified. The first semi-final was a repeat of last years final when 16 Battalion 'A' beat 15 Battalion 'A.' 16 Battalion were too strong for the boys from Donnington and thus reached their second successive final winning six nil. In the second semi-final 16 Battalion ' B ' tried very hard to emulate their 'A' side but 32 Company 'A' were too good for them and ran out winners two nil. The final was a very exciting and nail biting affair. 16 Battalion took the lead after only eighteen seconds but 32 Ordnance fought back, refused to give up and equalised just before half time. The score remained one all throughout the second half as both teams battled for a winner. In extra time when it looked as though the match would have to be decided by penalties Lance Corporal Neville Todd scored for 16 Battalion to ensure that the Shield remained at Bicester for the second year. Accommodation at Deepcut is extremely limited. Com- petitors who live within reasonable travelling distance may be asked to travel daily. Military competitors requiring accom- modation should ensure that their enty forms are submitted at the earliest opportunity.
