Transcription you," he replied, " it's already in type." Oh folly. The ADFA,
Fred Baskett, being an efficient young man, actually expected
water to flow from the fire hydrants when they were turned on.
The takeover board were not impressed by Fred's news and
refused to accept the store. In spite of this big non event,
hopes remain high that we will be able to open for business
soon.
In the meantime the headquarters building has suffered the
inconvenience and smells of being repainted, but it was worth-
while, all the offices are much brighter and even more pleasant
to work in. Vicky and Hilary have been to Bicester on a
provision course and George Alderson, the Chief Clerk, to
Wigston on a documentation course. All did well and enjoyed
themselves, thanks to the teaching staff in both locations.
Last but by no means least we wish Captain Tony Hayward
the very best of luck for his tour in the Falklands; he has al-
ready got a posting order for BAOR—nice one Tony!
STORES PLATOON 15 FIELD
WORKSHOP
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome another eight
members into the Platoon. First, there is Staff Sergeant (Ken)
Williams who is busy trying to make a storage plan. Then
we have two more friendly Sup Cons Privates (Derek) Williamson
and (Nick) Goodfellow. The Sup Specs are now all in with
Corporal (Paul) Braithwaite, Privates (Mac) McManus and
(Smudge) Smith. Finally we have had two Drivers posted in
Corporal (Geordie) Ross and Lance Corporal (Bill) Clint. At
last we are nearly up to our full establishment.
The events of the last month have been quite good. The
Platoon did very well in the seven-a-side rugby, coming third out
of seven in the Workshop inter Platoon rugby competition.
But the highlight of the month was the first issue made from
the back of a vehicle. Corporal Braithwaite said " I was
amazed to find it in the right place sir, the storage system does
work."
To conclude we would like to congratulate the following
personnel on receiving their substantive promotions: W 2
(SQMS) Gregory, Staff Sergeant Williams and Lance Corporal
Hunter. The final congratulations goes to Private Smith who
has been informed he is to be promoted on posting later
this year.

few full trays of work for them, but did not

produce them before we had heard all the

Mayor and High Sheriff left Fulwood
Barracks the Supply team who seem to run
the Officers Mess Committee Comd Sup—PMC, S02 Sup (Mat)
—Mess Secretary and OS ASU—House Member heaved a sigh
of relief—they all had their appointments over shortly having
done their stint.
With our Regular and Territorial Army Battalions either
on exercise or in the Falkland Islands work progresses apace,
and of course pre-ARU visits continue. We welcome back,
Major Bolt the OC of the Stores Section after a recent period
of hospitalisation. Rumour has it, that our next notes will
include some news from Headquarters 42 Infantry Brigade at
Chester, it will be nice to hear from the Chief Clerk Sergeant
J. Lorimer and his ADC, Private Cawley.
South East District
RESETTLEMENT COURSES are very
much the vogue as the military careers
of our old and bold draw to a close.
Colonel Shephard and Major Harmer are
taking their courses locally in Alder-
shot, but Major Mentzel has vanished out
of sight to Catterick. This year will see
a general exodus on retirement of several
other Corps Officers serving in the Dis-
trict. They include Lieutenant Colonel
Tim Start from the Supply Depot Aldershot, Lieutenant Colonel
Tom Walker from ASU Aldershot, Major Robin Johnson from
OSU Ashford and Major Tom Davies from ASU Winchester.
We congratulate Fireman Hamson from the Bordon Fire
Brigade for his quick thinking and courage in rescuing a family
from their burning house in Pctcrsficld. But for Fireman
Hamson's action the family would have undoubtedly perished.
General Sir Richard Trant KCB, GOC South East District
has seen fit to award Fireman Hamson a certificate of com-
mendation.
Finally we must say farewell to Corporal John Chrimes
who leaves the Army and Corporal Phil Artley who has departed
for the LOA land of BAOR. We wish them both well.
ACCOMMODATION
SERVICES UNIT RAOC,
SHORNCLIFFE
DURING the month our Comd Sup, Colonel E. G. Shcphard,
visited our detachments in Uckficld and Brighton.
His visit was particularly welcome as it enabled him to
present the Imperial Service Medal to Mr Morris Whybrow
who recently completed his Service as a Storekeeper in our
MQES Uckficld.
The photograph shows the presentation of the Imperial
Service Medal by Colonel Shephard to Mr Whybrow. Con-
gratulations!
The untimely death of Mr Peter Chainey a labourer, at the
age of forty eight years has brought a sense of great sadness
to his colleagues in the Unit. Peter joined Accommodation
Services in September 1976 and rarely had a days sickness
until sustaining an unfortunate injury which kept him away
from work for six months. To his family we offer our heart-
felt sympathy. It may be some small consolation to know that
we share their grief.

Morris W h y b r o w at MQES Uckfield.
Mr
Accommodation Services Unit Shorncliffe
RECENTLY all ASAs assembled at Shorncliffe for a meeting
followed by a social gathering in the Waggoners Club which
also included the ASU office staff. The opportunity was taken
to present farewell gifts to Captain Harry Twitchett, leaving
on posting, and Mr Gerry Wright on his retirement.
Captain Harry Twitchett has been with the unit for some
four and a half years, the last one and a half years as OC.
His considerable bulk and jovial nature will be missed through-
out Kent and East Sussex! We wish him every success in his new
post at ASU South West District. His successor as OC is Major
Roy North.
Mr Gerry Wright has been an ASA for sixteen years. He
transferred from ASU London to ASU Shorncliffe in 1973 and
has been based at Chatham. As an ASA he was held in high
esteem but he will be more widely remembered for his excellent
work over a number of years as a committee member of
AGSRO. We wish him a long and happy retirement.
