Transcription Staff Sergeant Bob Bate is presented with his Long Service and
Cood Conduct Medal by Colonel -Coxon in BAOR.
time in a row, would you believe. Next year it's rumoured he
will have to have both hands tied behind his back for the com-
petition? WOl Hornsby has also been walking around looking
very cheerful of late—his family have finally joined him from
UK.
Sadly after only a short period we have to say goodbye to
Mrs Carol Linacre, leaving for a happy event a couple of months
hence.
Those that have been fortunate enough to have served in
Headquarters BAOR during the past fifteen years will wish to
join us in saying farewell to W02 Jessie von Dahlen on her
retirement having completed twenty two years. Jessie arrived
here as a Sergeant in 1968 and was employed in Medical
Directorate. Since then she has been employed in various
branches and eventually for the past few years as Supervisor of
the Word Processor Pool.
It is the intention of Jessie and her husband to settle in
the Seychelles and manage a small guest house. The queue
for bookings is pretty long so anyone contemplating an exotic
holiday with palm fringed beaches are strongly advised to get
their bid in quickly.
A warm welcome is extended to W02 Jayne Kelley, and
Sergeant Dave Muir. Jayne takes over from Jessie and Dave from
Paddy Keating who has managed to secure a posting to that
other exotic island named Cyprus.
Staff Sergeant Bob Bate has recently been presented with
the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal by Colonel Coxon.
Bob has recently completed three years in G3 (O and D) having
now moved on promotion to W02 upstairs to become Chief
Clerk BRSC (Ops).
The West Rhine Hash House Harriers continue their
weekly runs even though numbers attending are unfortunately
not too high at present and it must be credited to the enthusiasm
of W02 Alan Jensen the Hash continues and remains popular
for those who attend. The Hash has its fiftieth run coming up
shortly which will be followed by a barbeque.
W02 Dave O'Brien, Staff Sergeant Dave Lathern, Sergeants
Colin Lawrence and Kevin continue to clock up the miles run-
ning this way and that around the Rheindahlen area. It is
interesting though, to see Sergeant Colin Lawrence struggle to
work after an exhausting run on his newly bought small wheeled
bicycle.
Finally, we must congratulate Sergeant John Edwards and
his wife Denise on the birth of their daughter Jessica.
Ordnance Depot- Antwerp
DOWN at Broechem Country Club, home for the retired
Vehicle Specialist, W02 (Super Q) Chris Keelor arranged an
open day to show families what the depot actually did. A very
enjoyable day was had by all concerned. A new motorcycle dis-
play team emerged.
' The Broechem Bombers,' comprising
Corporal Eddie Bird, Lance Corporal John Sword and Private
Nick Lowe they thrilled the crowd with an excellent display
which included jumping between Foden Tankers. The band of
3rd Battalion Royal Regiment of Wales turned up to play
during the Bar-B-Q and when the first raffle prize was collected
the winner was serenaded with ' Congratulations.'
A week later British Forces Antwerp staged the annual
Queen's Birthday Parade in which ODA played a major role.
This must be the biggest event of the year for Antwerp with
weeks of preparation, forward planning, erection of marquees,
stands and flower arrangements. Special mention must be made
of our Depot Service Superintendent Peter Sutherland BEM
without whose hard work the QBP could not take place to the
high standard that it does.
Frenzied activity has struck ODA yet again, Summer Camp
has loomed out of the mist. Rumours that it was a repeat of
last year's Hell Camp are totally unfounded. W02 (RQMS)
John Matthews is again chief organiser hindered by Captain
Richard Ough and OIC Camp Major Peter O'Brien. An added
attraction to this years camp is the fact that the unit ARU
conducted by Brigadier Russell (Commander Rhine Area), will
be conducted during the Summer Camp period. We hope the
Brigadier will not be suffering from jet lag by the time he gets
around to visiting both Emblem and Vielsalm on the same day.
On the sporting side the cricket team is doing rather well
having beaten FOD Dulmen in the DOS BAOR Cup. How-
ever in the next match in the local league they were all out for
forty four! Beating the opposition by thirty four runs!
ODA didn't do too well in the RAOC sports meeting at
Sennelager the nearest they got to winning a medal was Captain
Richard Ough ' dropping in ' with the Cannonballs and landing
nearest the target cross.

THE annual battle camp at Vogelsang has
come and gone—some sighs of relief!
The weather throughout the fortnight was
attrocious and by the middle of the
second week the training area was
likened to ' the Somme with trees!' The
final APWT was something of a rushed
affair, where the timing of details was
in keen competition with a river, which
controlled our only route out and which
rose by two feet in four hours. The
whole of the area forward of the one hundred metre point
was knee deep in water (which did little for the popularity
of the kneeling position). Indeed, the quote of the day was
