DISPLAY " T H A T S MONTH." CLOSE FILE. STOP RUN. ALL FOLKS—SEE YOU NEXT Training Centre SCHOOL OF ORDNANCE JULY will be remembered by all as a month of sweltering heat and uncomfort- able classrooms. The 4th July will be remembered as the day the Truman's entertained the indigenous population to an excellent * cook out' and copious refreshments. There are a few who do not remember that evening! During the heatwave the most envied person was Lieutenant Colonel Bob Cannons driving his air-conditioned Jaguar. ' the Big Cat.' Queues were seen to be forming as people wished to experience the joy of ' purring' along in comfort to the Mess. Other new toys have been installed in various offices, that is TV sets called Logtex which provide a tremendous amount of information—except for cricket scores. In Management Wing it is the season of Ramadan and CFOO visits and the two gallant foreign tutors, ' Jambo' Cowan and ' Mohammed' Murphy have been kept busy entertaining the CFOO course on a whirlwind tour of UK places of interest. It is understood that both are now familiar with the dietary habits of Italian hotel owners. Meanwhile in Logistics Wing the staff of Bursarial Duties have seen an increase in establishment A warm welcome is extended to W02 Colin Amey, R Signals and his family who have joined us from BAOR. In addition, congratulations are due to the McGavin family on the birth of a daughter. The Blathenvick clan assembled one bright and sunny Sunday to celebrate the christening of their daughter. This was arranged prior to father leaving for the jungles of Belize. He was last seen being led away by two jungle trained members, namely Ray Turner and Bob Willox. In a previous issue it was mentioned that Carol in the Admin office was trying to stop smoking. She has failed! Meanwhile her partner in crime Nora has developed into a big girl as she has acquired a set of frontal props from the set of the recent drama presentation of Habeas Corpus. Finally the Hash continues to flourish as an extra mural activity and recent happenings include a swimming pool hash and a finish at the Brigadier's house. j-rt^~-^IY|r~—^t"h-i _.-—. ~~^ZZ __—u. ^-^ . _ -» L__ 4-—-—J| ' A 1 i I i I ; ! j The Deepcut W a t e r become embroiled in the events. Private Phil Hansan and Lance-Corporal Mark Anderson as backstage and lighting crewmen, WOl Langridge. photographer and Cap- tain Tim Lill, Front of House. The Equipment Repairers also helped with furniture and properties so it's becoming a real family affair! Finally, congratulations to the Admin Officer for assisting his Cocker Spaniel Bitch to deliver a puppy in his car in the Employment Training School Car Park! He made it home just in time for a further eight to be born! Farewells go with Cap- tain Hugh Minchinton to MOD, after a short spell with us he decided the School was just too much! Sergeant Murphy takes to the Falkland Islands and Corporal Moore departs for West Moors. TRAINING BATTALION AND DEPOT RAOC THE unit entered and won both the RAOC and WRAC Swim- ming Championships held at Aldershot Swimming Pool. The winning combination of Major Robin Syder who is the team adviser and Major Brian Roberts will hopefully ensure our success for many years to come. Battalion Headquarters made a good start in the inter- departmental sports competition organised by Admin Company. Last Wednesday afternoon saw the crowds moving to the gymnasium to watch the first leg of the competition—the fivc-a- side football. The sight of so many hitherto unseen pairs of legs in shorts was enough for the famous five to romp home to a well deserved victory against the Guardroom and QM's team. EMPLOYMENT TRAINING SCHOOL BRIGADIER HULME DDGOS visited us this month and visited every department of the School, finding time to talk to students and staff, concluding with a presentation of certificates of excel- lence to three students passing out from the Supply Specialist Branch. Sergeant James has left us for Germany and Sergeant Hughes has joined us in his place from 81 Ordnance Company. Being field force orientated it came as no surprise to Sergeant Hughes to find that two days after arrival he was expected to pack his desk paraphenalia prior to an office move, negotiated between the Master Printer and OIC Supply Specialists. Location changes have now been effected and for once the telephone links have coincided with the shuttle, so everyone is happy and on net. We have received news from the 2IC Major Rowe and our staff clerk Corporal Hale, both of whom are serving six months in the Falkland Islands. Both seem to be bearing up. to the rigours of the winter there, although neither of them recom- mended the trip for the family used to Blackpool or the sands at Cohvyn Bay. Staff Sergeant Davidson OIC Equipment Repairers, recently returned from Catterick where the RAOC 'A' Golf Team beat the R Signals in the final of the Irish Rangers Bowl. Staff Sergeant Davidson now contemplates joining the Tidworth Army Golf Club in preparation for his posting to Headquarters South West District later this year. Mr Adrian Dean Netscher, one of our fire training officers whose home is in Donnington, spent his seventy two hours leave pass assisting in fire fighting duties in the Depot recently. His local knowledge proved invaluable during this most harrowing event. He has provided the School with edited video tapes of the fire and these will be incorporated as descriptive elements in various fire lectures delivered to both unit fire officers and NCOs. As the Blackdown Players become more involved with drama festivals, so, apparently, more members of the School — Babes. Standing left to right: Private H i l l , Private Barry, Second Lieutenant C. The victorious swimming team consisted of several Training Company personnel—congratula- tions to them and especially Lance Corporal Shaw and Private Cadman who have been selected for the Army Team. Several efforts have been made this month to increase Train- ing Company's turnover of DMS boots by various exercises of the pedestrian type. (Suspicions that this was to enable the RQ's stock of the new combat boot to fall nearer to Training Company's hands were apparently unfounded.) The first expedition was Exercise ' Hot Hike '—hot being the operative word—the team, led by Lieutenant Simon Lovegrove returned bronzed and healthy(?) having walked ninety miles along the Pennine Way from Horton in Ribblesdale to Garrigil. The formidable four, including Corporal Jones and Lance Corporals Harwood and McCormack apparently only stopped to make sure that the brewing was at its usual high standard'. Lieutenant Simon Lovegrove also organised Training Com- pany's starlight Marathon—a sponsored walk, jog or run which started at 1800 on a Saturday night and continued on into the following morning. In all, the participants, comprising Lieutenants Lovegrove and Blong, Sergeant Egan, Delhi Platoon and a group from Admin Company headed by W/Sergeant Mullen raised £450 which will go to Action Research for the Crippled Child. Well done all who took part—blisters as well! Finally, as a parting gesture to Training Company, the 2IC Captain Geoff Cox organised an overnight orienteering exercise 135 — |
