AS we closed for press last month we
reported that the unit athletics team had
gained a place in the Army Minor Unit
semi-finals.
Despite winning the two
hundred metres, the four by four hundred
metres relay and the shot (Major
Lawrence Wood surprised himself) suffice
to say we did not reach the finals. How-
ever we are well pleased with our (cam

regatta—they returned with a tiny burgee as their prize.
The Sergeants Mess had a Regimental Dinner and dined
out Major Pincher and later their summer function when the
Mess turned into Dodge City. The Officers Petroleum Course
ran the Officers Mess summer party—a medieval night when
that mess became Camelot (guarded as ever by Sir Pipeline
Pete). The JRC Summer Barbeque had two groups but pride
of place must go to the Corporals Club who organised a Medieval
Banquet at an hotel. The costumes were magnificent—bishops
and nuns and kings and queens (among their guests CSM
Nightingale became a Monk and the Commandant a Wizard).
Somehow their principal guests Major and Mrs Pincher to whom
they were saying farewell became Baron and Baroness of the
whole banquet for the night. We noted that the organiser
Corporal Ian Waters even wore the Corps Badge to show
who was in charge.

AIR Commodore Northmorc, Air Com-
modore Signals, recently visited the RAF
Central Distribution Agency, and was met
initially by the Commanding Officer of the
Regional Depot, Lieutenant Colonel John
Evans and the Second-in-Command
Squadron Leader Bill Tootell. For once,
it was pleasant to welcome a Senior
Officer on inspection without being in-
spected oneself, and even more so when
it was established that the Air Commodore as an original RAF
Regiment Cadet was trained like the Commanding Officer, in
Inkcrman Company at the RMA Sandhurst.
We also had a gala day of presentations and awards for
the unit, the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel John
Evans kindly presented First Aid certificates to the following:
Sergeant Frank Barrett, PC Adrian Brooks, Mr Bruce Carter,
Mrs Phyllis Frecmantle, Mrs Betty Marshall, Sergeant David
Price, PC Martin Saunders, Mrs Sheila Sprulcs, Mrs Jenny
Stevens, Mrs Ruth Wallace, Mrs Michelle Waters and PC
Peter Wood.
A training certificate was also presented to Miss Caroline
Woodage. In addition, Staff Suggestion Scheme Award cheques
were given t o : Mr B. A. Clarke, Mr B. Carter, Mr A. Haines and
Mr D. Inglut.
This is the first time on record that seventeen awards of
one kind or another have been made on one occasion, and this
was truly a festive event.
Recently, a local event involving several thousand spectators
and a few hundred entrants for the ' Crafty Craft Races' for
charity took place on the Kennct-Avon Canal, with Regional
Depot Thatcham entering a worthy team and coming in the
first twenty-odd places. A very worthy effort, considering the,
team covered a distance of twelve miles or more, and carried
their own home-constructed craft across ten locks along the
route!

Corporal Ian Waters the organiser of the Corporals Club outing.
Should he not have worn an A O C cap badge?
CSM Ken Nightingale led an expedition the length of the
Penine Way. Fifteen members of the unit took part. It is
believed that they volunteered for a ' short walk.' There is in
fact some dispute as to whether they marched two hundred and
forty eight or two hundred and fifty miles from Edale to Kirk
Yetholm (over Hadrians Wall).
Some whose map reading
required improvement actually marched further.
Although the walk was planned as a two week expedition
it was completed in ten days. Quite a feat (feet)! Private Bernie
Moy who was cook, driver, bottle washer and admin party,
surprised everyone by producing some very tasty meals. All
this and a Pet Op Too!
Congratulations to Corporal Glyn Williams who has
married Judith Elizabeth Hutton. We hope they enjoyed their
honeymoon/embarkation leave. We say farewell to Corporal
Glyn Williams who has departed for a five months tour on
Ascension Island as the resident Chemical Laboratory Assistant.
We also bid au revoir to Sergeants Botterill, Rayner and
Philbrick, Corporals Bell and MacDonald, Lance Corporals
Menary and Spaven and Privates Johns, Moss and Lorraine, all
