Transcription During the last week at Vielsalm a contest was held with the
local Belgian unit. It comprised a football match and a shoot-
ing competition. Fortunately ODA won both events so Lieu-
tenant Colonel Freddie Grant was extremely happy.
Even
more so because his son Jeremy scored the winning goal. This
was followed by an excellent cocktail party ' organised' by
RSM Boyle and organised by Sergeant Jim Whitehead.
84 Company RAOC TA visited us on their annual camp
this year. They were integrated into the depot where they
showed a great deal of zeal and efficiency in the jobs they were
given. We look forward to seeing them again perhaps next
year?
A number of arrivals this month include Sergeant Gaughan,
Corporal King, Lance Corporal Kerstein and Privates Jordan and
Hall. Farewells go to Lance Corporals Johnson and Leighton,
Privates Blackman and Stebbings whilst Sergeant Peterson is
detached to the ODA Detachment in Moenchengladbach.
15 Ordnance Group
HEADQUARTERS
IT is quite sometime since this unit submitted an article so
perhaps it is a good time to bring readers up to date on the
personalities.
At the helm we have the Commander, Colonel Carruthers
who successfully steered us on a North Easterly Course from
Viersen to Dulmen last June. In the S02s chair is Major Ian
Marshall who having gained his MSC degree has embarked on a
Wagon Wheel eating course—yet another frustrated HGV1
driver. We understand the Naafi has noted the upward trend in
sales and has made adequate provision. Our full time runner
and sometime Group Technical Officer is Major Mike Knight
who in recent months has organised the RAOC Marathon Cham-
pionships. There is little truth in the rumour that he only
competed because of the special prize for the over forty fives.
Major Tim Walker RAPC, our resident GMA, divides his
time between playing with his electronic toy and organising
cocktail parties. Mobilisation Planning is in the capable hands
of Captain Ron Ball who uses his equally capable feet
Volkslaufing at weekends. Mob WO SSM Brian Wicks has
also caught the nature ramble bug and modestly admits that his
single stride is outdistanced by Captain Ball's four. Perhaps a
ratio of 1:3 is more like it. Gun toting thespian (without the
lisp) and occasional Work Study Practitioner SSM Steve Myers
has recently celebrated two successes. He directed and played
the leading role in Dulmen Amateur Dramatic Society's pro-
duction of Count Dracula which won the adjudicators special
award in the BFG Festival. He also was a member of the
successful Dulmen rifle team in the Rhine Area Shoot.
Now that summer is here, the other WSP SSM Kel Adamson
is once again chasing that elusive winner's trophy in this his
last cricket season in the Army. Procedure Writer SQMS Joe
Hoareau is discovering to his horror that his literary master-
pieces are generally disregarded by those who want to get on
with the job. Carrying the flag behind the fence are the real
workers, stocktakers SSM Frank Rogers and Sergeant Len
Wrightson. Our Chief Clerk SQMS Bob Bowrah BEM divides
his time between soliciting our money for his various swindles •
and disturbing those poor little fish in the static water tank.
Assisting with the various clerical tasks and providing glamour
are Anne, Shirley, Pat, Christa and Tracy Ann.
FORWARD
ORDNANCE
DEPOT
DULMEN
REGIMENTAL ADMINISTRATION.
Having mentioned " the
worker" Debbie Goodswen last month, it has to be reported
that the Commanding Officer obviously took note of the com-
ment and swiftly took her away to become his PA. It obviously
doesn't pay to use these pages in a complimentary manner.
Private Adrian Hayward-Wills has swopped desks recently
and is now trying to discharge everyone, but is having to learn
that it is not done on a Form CI (Passport Application). He
was replaced in the R and DC by Lance Corporal Keith Waud
who moves from the Planning Office. We have now welcomed
back Sergeant Mike Morgan from his Penguin Hunting down
South. Captain Jo Johnston has been participating in the RAOC
(BAOR) Offshore Regatta where the unit gained a very credit-
able second position in a field of eight. Sailing appears to be
the ' in sport' at the moment with the Commanding Officer,
Lieutenant Colonel O'Dea and our Training Officer, Second
Lieutenant Burnham on' the high seas somewhere north of Kiel.
We welcome Mrs Tracey Stevens who has joined the
Orderly room staff and wish her an enjoyable stay with the
motley crew who keep the place ticking over.

The Forward Ordnance Depot Dulmen 'A' Team came a very
close second to Ordnance Depot Antwerp in their very first
attempt at the RAOC BAOR Target Rifle Competition 1983.
As a result of the experience gained in this competition the
team intends to enter this event again during the coming season,
and are quietly confident that they will better their previous
performance. Pictured from left to right: Herr Custav Heidemann,
Mrs Iris Maffia, Sergeant Mike Morgan and Mr Stuart Home.
CDP 2. We are looking forward to the ' Freedom of Dulmen
Parade ' in September; no doubt there will be a few ' hours ' on
the square before then. Corporal Ron Gant, Lance Corporal
Jock Cawley and Private Brian Taylor will take it in their
' thirty inch ' stride.
Corporal Geoff Adams will soon take his education course.
" N o it isn't counted as overtime" says WOl Smudge Smith, who
is still puzzled about why Private Nobsie Nobbs was trying to
inflate stacker tyres with a powder fire extinguisher. The answer
may be revealed next month.
ASU RAOC RHINE
AREA
AFTER a most successful Small Lot Sale of surplus accom-
modation stores the unit has reverted to its routine tasks. The
OC managed to get away for a couple of weeks holiday in
Switzerland and Captain Marc Moody managed to spare the
time for a holiday in Yugoslavia. Not to be outdone Major
Peter Whitwham took a couple of weeks off to go sailing; in
his case it counted as duty!
Lieutenant Colonel Derek Taylor together with Lieutenant
Colonel Kerry Curtis attended the recent BFG ASU Convention
in Berlin. Our appreciation for the hospitality afforded by
Ordnance Services Berlin must be recorded with particular thanks
to Major Kit Gibson for arranging a most interesting tour of
East Berlin (in our spare time, of course!).
Mr Bunny Austin, our CASO in charge of AAS Viersen, has
now returned to duty after a long spell in hospital. We welcome
him back.
154 FORWARD AMMUNITION
DEPOT
SEVEN MEMBERS of 154 FAD set off for Denmark to take
part in the RAOC/RAPC sailing regatta. If they expected to
return with sun tans, they were to be disappointed, as storms
gripped the entire continent throughout the week. The wind-
burns and chaffed lips are healing nicely now, thank-you. Even
so, one gets the impression that the crew (all complete novices)
enjoyed the more strenuous side of sailing. Although the FAD
boat came in last, it did arrive with a six pound sea trout on
board, so perhaps some consideration could be given towards
the award of Corps Fishing Colours.
Corporal Dave Collett has departed to the Falklands for a
short break, and we welcome Corporal Martin Moorhouse and
family into the fold, down at Al's garage.
It has been a time of furious comings and goings in Control,
with Corporal Dave Tressler, Lance Corporal Paul Chisholm
and Private Iain Shipman returning from arduous duty in the
Falklands, and the arrival of Chisholm Mk II (Paul's brother
Steven from the Gunners). W/Lance Corporal Michelle Baker
and W/Private Joyce Meek have been basking in the sun at
Wimbledon, after first helping the WRAC detachment win the
A(W)RA Small Bore League. W/Sergeant Dawn Lewis came
