Transcription wish them every happiness, not only at their new posting, but on
the expectant arrival of their first baby. With the departure of
the old OC we welcome in the new ' main man ' Major Roger
Wyborn. We wish both him and his family a warm welcome
and hope they have an enjoyable tour in Munster.
Having just completed a successful tour as OC Supplies
and Catering at Fawlty Towers we welcome Captain Barry
Groves to his appointment as Company 2IC, and at the same
time, we reciprocate the feeling to the new CQMS Staff Sergeant
Taff Tarr and family. Certain members of the company would
like to know if there is any truth in the rumour going around the
LAD that Morty and Vince have issued a red and cream VW
van with a work ticket. Finally, if Lance Corporal Nauyokas
has actually carried out what he intended to do and can find
time to read this tabloid, we offer him and his bride our con-
gratulations on their recent wedding.

On the sporting scene, undoubtedly the highlight of the
month was the Battalion achievements in the RAOC (BAOR)
Athletics meeting recently held at the Sennelager Military
Stadium on a splendid day for athletics. The Battalion team
won the RAOC (BAOR) Athletics Inter Unit Challenge Cup,
the RAOC (BAOR) Field Force Cup and the RAOC (BAOR)
Track Runners Up Cup.
Individual achievements included
Corporal Jim Pow's victory in the pole vault, Private Colin
Lupton's second placings in the two hundred metres and four
hundred metres and as a member of the four by one hundred
metres relay team. Overall an excellent performance was given
by all and the team can look forward to hopefully even more
success next year.
The 3rd Armoured Division Skill-at-Arms meeting was
held at Sennelager earlier this month with the Battalion team
achieving a creditable third position in the Minor Units with
the Battalion taking first place in the LMG Competition (W02
(CSM) Thayre and Corporal Wier) and second in the Section
Match Competition where the team consisting of W 2 (CSM)
Thayre, Corporals Martindale, Wier, Free and Private Wyatt.
Well done indeed.
Finally this month we say farewell to Staff Sergeant Mark
Hodgkiss on promotion to W02, hope you have a good time in
Bracht and welcome in his place Staff Sergeant John Kwasiuk,
hope you and your family have an enjoyable tour with the
Company. Back this month from the sunny Falklands to finish
their tours with the Company are Sergeant Brian Jenkins, Lance
Corporal Taff Walsh and Private Max Maxwell. Welcome
back.
Just a quick mention this month to Staff Sergeant Doc
Holliday to whom we say hello and goodbye as he has gone
straight on a detachment to the Falklands. (Hope you have a
good time anyway.)
33 ORDNANCE
COMPANY
THE major preoccupation in June was hosting the members
of 154 (V) Supply Platoon TA, during their two week summer
camp. As they are now an integral part of the Battalion it
was nice to have them here, especially as they helped take
some of the workload off the more regular members of the
unit. I would like to say that the Battalion Open Day held on
the day of their arrival was in their honour, but it was merely
a fortunate coincidence of which they lost no time in availing
themselves.
During the first week of July Staff Sergeant Rowles was
seen to be ' beasting' a number of characters around the streets
and footpaths of North Munster. Enquiries were made and it
was discovered that the time has come for the Company to
provide men for Operation Beggar. The chosen team received
a crash course in infantry section tactics and a considerable
amount of extra-curricular fitness training before departing for
the wilds of Westphalia. Fortunately I can report that they
were not called upon tc use their newly acquired skills!
This last week has seen the arrival and departure of a
number of key personalities within the unit. To start with we
say farewell to Major John Laird and his wife Maureen and

ASU
THIS past six months has seen ASU becoming increasingly
involved in the new Battalion's activities. Captain Mike Lentz
has taken part in three Divisional exercises and Captain Mike
Parsons has trained the Battalion off shore sailing crew and
skippered them to victory in two events at the Kiel Regatta.
In July we welcomed for resettlement training and eventual
employment as an ASA, Sergeant Major Peter Veti of 662
Squadron AAC. OC ASU is now fairly confident that the
unit is ready to meet the foe on land, at sea and in the air
should it be absolutely necessary and time permits between
married quarters march out/in and new project equipping
programmes.
STORES SECTION 26 FIELD REGIMENT
WORKSHOP
OUR WOIC Alan Kennedy has been selected for Exercise Long
Look, and leaves us for Australia. He is closely followed by our
resident bird watcher Scooter Coultas who will be soon leaving
for the Falklands to count the Penguins. It will soon pass
Scooter—worst luck.
Congratulations are in order for Private Tony Wilson on
his marriage to Sabine. We hope it is long and successful.
Rumour has it that Corporal Marc Willis is also contemplating
marriage and meeting a ' young lady' at the wedding party.
Perhaps our Man about Dortmund Private Dodsworth can
offer some expert advice.
Staff Sergeant Ron Price, our Marathon Man is currently
training for various marathons but, for differing reasons they
never seem to materialise—then again, it is quite a drive from
Dortmund to Athens. He is currently trying to figure out the dis-
tance from Lands End to John O'Groats.
Lance Corporal Ricky Doe looks as though he is always
running marathons—perhaps it is because his wife has been
in UK for the past month and he hasn't yet mastered the art
of cooking. She is back now, so hopefully he will be regaining
his lost weight
Last, but not least, we say welcome to Sergeant Gordon
Soellner and his wife Elizabeth and family from Berlin. We
hope your stay with us is both enjoyable and memorable.
STORES SECTION 6 ARMOURED
WORKSHOP
THE Stores Platoon recently held a successful farewell party
in the Storeshed to bid farewell to Staff Sergeant Benny
Gorbould after completing twenty two years in the army. It
was a very successful evening and all credit must go to Sergeant
Joe Leatherbarow, Corporal Harry Pelling and committee for
the layout. Staff Sergeant Benny Gorbould still can't believe
the farewell present he was presented with.
Highlight of the month was our adventure training exercise
at BOBC Norway. After arriving and a good nights sleep we
were off to explore the Fjords of Norway complete with ruck-
sacks, camping equipment and three days compo rations. We
were replenished three days later with another two days compo
rations and off we set again. Everyone enjoyed the five day trek
but there is a well known saying that the ' greatest danger to man
is an officer with a map!' This is true, for the OC Captain
Mike Edwards got us lost every day. We even marched off
the map on the second day. Luckily we had excellent map
readers in Sergeant Wally Preston, Lance Corporal Jim Peppard
and Private Terry Davies. The last few days were spent rock
climbing and absailing which even cured the fear of heights for
yours truly W 2 Ted Curtis. Everyone had a great time and
even returned back to Munster completely bronzed.
Congratulations to Sergeant Joe Leatherbarrow on his recent
promotion and Lance Corporal Jeff Jones on winning the Med-
ley race in the recent RAOC (BAOR) athletics meeting.
Farewell to Staff Sergeant Benny Gorbould on his retire-
ment to Civvy Street. He will be greatly missed. Farewell to
Private Tonks and family, best wishes for the future.
