Transcription The Company now waits with baited breath the return of

The 53 Ordnance Company team which won the Batcson Trophy
and the Martin-Jenkins Rose Bowl.
62 ORDNANCE
COMPANY
A few of those detached in the Falklands are returning, but
others are going out: Staff Sergeant Roberts, Corporal Valinder
and Private Haggart had six months away, whereas Private
Camilleri has a month less.
Private Jones has flown to
Suffield and the prairie for six months.
Welcome to WOl Land from 33 Ordnance Company who
has taken over from WOl Braithwaite who has gone to the
halls of learning at Deepcut, we wish him and his wife good
fortune in their last year of service. Second Lieutenant Snaith,
our training officer, goes to Shrivenham, he has been with us
for eight months and has been our Chinook expert. We are
used to the downdraft—and most of Company has had a ride.
The inter-company athletics meeting revealed depth which
we did not expect, and the Company won at the meeting at
Gutersloh. The photo shows the sprint relay winners of Private
Nicholson, W02 Wadley, Lance Corporal Ogden and Private
Boylan. At the RAOC BAOR meeting on a very hot day, the
Battalion team, who lost the star sprinter with an injury, lost the
title to 3 Ordnance Battalion on a count back of firsts. Our
administrative officer Captain Haslam is off on Long Look to
Wellington.
to BI. It was a sad farewell to Sergeant Corky Cockayne king
of SIMMO and Sergeant Weedall the MHE master. No doubt
they will have a good time in Kinetoh and Belize respectively.

61 ORDNANCE
COMPANY
ON the sports scene 61 Company has been busy. The Company
football team won both the DOS Cup and the Bielefeld Garrison
Minor Units Cup, the latter by beating 63 Company by three
goals to two in the final.
Second Lieutenant Hodder has done more disappearing acts
to Berlin to play cricket and to the UK to take part in the Army
Athletics Championships where he broke the BAOR Javelin
record—well done sir.
Five members of the MT Section left the unit to attend
an RPC3 to 2 upgrading course being held at Bielefeld with
Skill-at-Arms Instruction being carried out by Sergeant Deacon
of this unit and we wish them all the best of luck.
Detachments to the Falklands include Sergeant Major,
Privates Dando and Maxwell and we wish them all well. We
also welcome Sergeant Salter (MT), Lance Corporal Usher
(PC and A) and Corporal Martin (ACQ whilst saying a sad
farewell to Captain and Mrs Kay en route to Viersen, Sergeant
and Mrs Crook, Sergeant Dean and Lance Corporal and Mrs
Chessell to UK.

The DGOS visited us and met many of our soldiers:
Private Dodd demonstrated the banding machine in the un-
wind mode! The Company barbecue was a great success, with
the side show of driving Ferrets, Spartan and Eager Beaver.
Lance Corporal Pollock cooked excellent meat, and we say
farewell to him as he goes to MHTU. Lance Corporal Taylor
has just returned from being married and we will welcome his
new wife when a quarter is available.
63 ORDNANCE
COMPANY
' FIRE, FIRE, FIRE,' shouted Lance Corporal Nock and our
CQRFFF (Civilian Quick Reaction Fire Fighting Force), led by
Mr Cuthbert sprang into action and successfully put out a fire
on board one of our CVRTs. The CVRT was being tested by
Mr Sellers and Herr Goeke from the Workshop for fuel leaks
when it suddenly burst into flames. Fortunately both managed
to scramble out of the vehicle without injury. It was good to
see that when the alarm was raised, the reactions of all in-
volved was quick and all the extinguishers worked. Lucky
for Sergeant Hadley!
On the other hand we have also had over-reaction. On the
one occasion when we were exempt call out on Active Edge,
Corporal Smith (REME) happened to be Guard Commander.
On receiving the first command ' Prepare,' he got it right and
left us all in bed, however, on receiving the command ' Execute '
at about five o'clock in the moming, he got it wrong, and called
us all in. As it was a Battalion stand down there were not many
people around and those who were are not likely to let Corporal
Smith live it down for some time!
A recent check on what was going on in the MT Section
revealed that they have at last excelled themselves. For the first
We won the cup.
