time in many months all their vehicles are roadworthy. They have been threatening to paint out their office, and to produce a vehicle state chart for the OC. Are we about to see another miracle from MT, Sergeant Dawson. The CQMS Staff Sergeant Hampton has found a novel way of ensuring no one ever got near his stores. He paints his floors with red lead paint so often that nobody can get any- where near his shelves. Will he find painting the storehouse floors at Dulmen too great a challenge when he gets there on posting? Look out Dulmen for red lead Hampton! Socially we have had a very successful Church Sunday when the unit sponsored the Church Service in Bielefeld Garrison Church. It was good to see so many members of the unit at church. It can only have done them good. Corporal Rees, assisted by Corporal and Mrs Littlejohn and Mrs Parkes very kindly produced coffee and squash for the congregation after the service. The Church Service was followed by an afternoon of glorious sunshine, a giant size paddling pool, barbecue, potted sports, drinks and fun for all who wanted it. We were all very grateful to Q Parkes, Corporals Luke, Active Edge Smith, McKay and all their assistants who put the afternoon entertainment together, and of course Private Bagshaw who saw to it that everyone cooled down in the paddling pool, regardless of dress, hair styling, or wish to stay dry. Some were thrown into the pool in spectacular fashion and some with very little dignity, even the OC who is seen in our photograph being attended to by some of the children. part of the visit was to the compo barn where Corporal Coney, ably assisted by Corporal Gray from 63 Ordnance Company, had laid on a practical first aid demonstration. The scenario in- volved a collapsed stack of compo that had caused injuries to Private Baker who was effectively made up with casualty simulation kit to demonstrate the visual effects of bleeding, con- cussion and shock. So effective was the make up that a couple of the students attending the demonstration, notably Lance Corporal Morris, were seen to be a little green around the gills. This concluded a highly successful visit and the problem now will be, what do we do for an encore? Lance Corporal Morris, our MT NCO, has set his sights a little higher recently. At the weekends he has regularly been off to the Detmold airfield for gliding lessons. We all hope he is successful enough to gain his glider pilot's licence, and in his ultimate ambition, to be accepted by the AAC for training as a helicopter pilot. Finally this month we have to say our farewells to Corporal Gilbert and Mrs Pearl Wood. Corporal Gilbert has been our Depot Corporal, in addition to his many other duties, for the past three years and he and his wife, Jackie, are off to Hannover. It's not all sadness though as he leaves for a well deserved pro- motion to Sergeant Mrs Pearl Wood has been the friendly face in our Provision and Accounts Office for the past eighteen months. She leaves us on her return to the Corsham area in the UK. To both Corporal Gilbert and Mrs Wood we extend our thanks and fond farewells. STORES PLATOON 1 CORPS TROOPS WORKSHOP WE have just got over our Stores Platoon barbeque which we hold every year, it was a great success; a big thank you to the committee members Corporal Alan Smith and Private John Hadaway. The barbeque supplied a few laughs, especially when the REME Disc Jockey got two electric shocks and everyone thought he was dancing. Private Mark Howells and Lance Corporal Scouse Bunting both received posting orders this week, Mark is going to Falk- land Islands and Scouse to Donnington. Lance Corporal Mark Hall is not with us for a few days as he's on a tennis trip and hopefully we will see a trophy or two. Congratulations are in order for Private Cliff Martin who successfully passed his RPC2. Corporal Jim O'Hara in charge of our Platoon MT has been very busy the last couple of weeks, training Private Steve Holmes and Jim Young to HGV2 Standard. The OC gets a ducking. To end we say farewell to Corporal and Mrs Bowen, Private and Mrs Lightwood, Privates Perera and Davies who volunteered to go to the Falklands. We welcome into the unit Private and Mrs Brammar and Sergeant and Mrs Pendleton. 64 ORDNANCE COMPANY THIS past month had a visit from the DGOS. This time, in- stead of producing their normal displays, the butchers, bakers and MTIs were tasked to demonstrate their skills in circum- stances different to their everyday routine. During his visit to the Butchery Department, General Whalley was able to see Staff Sergeant Wilson, Sergeant Bolton and Corporal Moore boning, rolling and preparing for issue a carcass of pork and a hind- quarter of beef. Unfortunately, with modern supply procedures, where all the meat comes frozen in pre-packed quantities, the skills of the butcher are not often practised. However, on this occasion they were able to demonstrate that the RAOC can still compete with any High Street Butcher. Following this was the unusual demonstration provided by the bakers. Imagine your- self tasked with producing bread with nothing more than the normal bread making ingredients. What do you do? Well, armed with a forty five gallon drum, enough wood to start a fire, a clean receptacle in which to mix the dough and a shovel, you dig a hole and build what the bakers call an Aldershot oven! This is what W02 Cummings, Sergeants Hallam and Stevenson, Corporals Hutt, King and Baker did in order to present the DGOS with a beautiful freshly baked loaf which, I am told, took pride of place at the DGOS dinner table. The final STORES PLATOON 94 LOCATING REGIMENT WE would like to welcome Corporal Wilks and family to Celle from Soltau and hope that they enjoy their stay with us, and also, take this opportunity to say farewell to Corporal Vince Banton, who leaves us for Dulmen, and Lance Corporal John Shaw and family, who are off to Bicester. Lance Corporals Shaw, Lawson and Day have been on their RPC2, which, we are told, was successfully completed. Corporal Lofty Wilson has been ' doing' his EPC and has just passed his RPCI. Well done! On the sporting front, Lance Corporal Steve Day has been ' putting the shot' for the Regiment, which helped get them into the BAOR Team Athletics Meeting where they came fifth. He was also ' runner-up' in the RAOC BAOR Championships. While all this was going on, W02 Duncan Leitch and Private Bob Hamilton have been on a ' Deutch-Sprechen ' Course, which they both passed with flying colours and were both recommended for the colloquial course. Congratulations to all those Stores Platoon Personnel who took part in the Hohne sixty five kilometres march, which all but two completed. They were: Staff Sergeant Geordie Bone, Corporals Phil Plowman and Paul Prior, Lance Corporals John Shaw, Scouse Shelhorne and Pete Boss Hogg and Private Paul Hunt, ably assisted by Privates Scouse Riccio and Scouse Taylor, driving the Land Rover (sensible lads!). Congratulations to Staff Sergeant Geordie Bone on being selected for promotion and receiving a posting order to Hannover! — 155 — REMEMBER THE DEADLINE— THE 28th OF EACH MONTH |
