Central Ordnance Depot Bicester -a /^^\J F—^N ////'//§ iAi\u\ y^JJUdlM. JiwiU\J •^^*=^^Wi - ^=^—' ^^jglfllpfej —*~">*|lfPnrn_ *=%£'* — ' P^JT£T 1 /tJ&SSx gjf B-J **&&? ^•"^ 1 SUB-DEPOT. The Depot Manpower Target has now been increased because of Bicester's additional workload and we welcome Mr Roach, Mrs Bunyan, Mrs Farrell, Miss Butler, Miss Hoolihan and Miss Lapper. Mr Scott (ex-WOl RAOC) has been posted to 3 Sub-Depot and Miss Clark was medically retired this month. We expect a further wave of civilian re- inforcement soon, when Stock Mainten- ance Teams are set up. Originally not included in Fair Value calculations, it has been found that a small number of dedicated-to-function teams are necessary to carry out geographic ' deep clean' types of stock and location maintenance. Until our soldier reinforcements arrive in October, work backlogs will continue to be high and we may not be able to ' catch u p ' until the quiet period around Christmas. 2 SUB-DEPOT. This month we would like to say hello to all our 2 Sub-personnel on detachments in F1LOG, Belize and Canada. Special mention is made of you all as there are now more of you than there are of us! We say congratulations to Lance Corporals Scouse Mynes, Cliff Martin and Mark Hodgkinson on their promotions and special congrats must go to Miss Carol Curtis of Building D2 who represented MOD at the Civil Service Athletic Champion- ships held at the Crystal Palace. A very creditable third place was achieved, well done Carol. The baby stakes continue with Lance Corporal Smudge Smith leading the field, his wife gave birth to a fine son and both are doing well. A word must be said about our mini detachment to 3 Sub- Depot where the movement of stores from us to them necessitated W/Corporal Lyn Wilson, Privates Alan Winterbottom, Smudge Smith and Scouse Fletcher to burn the midnight oil and do an excellent job in relocating two hundred plus pallets of stores into Building A5, welcome back. Welcome to Staff Sergeant Bob Ward, Sergeants Norman Davison and Noel Elstub, Corporal Dave Morris, Privates Ray Swain, Paul Hargate, Scouse Fletcher, John Pearce and Simon Brown, W/Lance Corporal Sharon Williams, W/Privates Carol Bennett, Taff Barry and Titch Kearney, we hope you enjoyed your stay with MacCollis Marauders. 16 Battalion BATTALION HEADQUARTERS. Corporal Chris Pavey is currently training for a one hundred mile, twenty four hour sponsored run in aid of Kidney Research and the Army Benevolent Fund. Well done Chris and good luck. We welcome W/Private Sian Jones. We hope you enjoy your stay and find what you're looking for. Sadly we say goodbye to some defectors from the Nerve Centre—W/Private Debbie Fretwell has defected to ' D ' Company, Lance Corporal Doug Jarman who has been promoted to A/Lance Corporal attended a RPC2 Course and then defected to ' B ' Company. HEADQUARTERS COMPANY. Is it a whirlpool? Is it a vortex? No, it's Captain Birdseye (Alias Corporal Tony Holt) whizzing around Calvert Lake for ten hours, swamping surf- boarders and frightening ducks, on his ten hour sponsored sail in aid of the RNLI charity; well done Corporal Holt, your effort was in good cause; it won't be so painful if you use a dinghy next time! (We had to write off the mast he used.) Still on sailing: the Company provided, with the assistance of our compatriots the Royal Pioneer Corps, admin, housing and organisation for the RAOC Corps Regatta. All attending agreed that the food prepared by Sergeant John Kirk ACC and his staff was excellent, the waterbome logistics arranged by Corporal Holt also on the ball and the weather arranged by CSM Slaughter, miraculous; all within the normal services provided by us, the top Company, under the supervision of Lieutenant Roy Dade for all admin and Major Fuller on the sailing side. The Garrison Commander, Brigadier Green, presented Long Service and Good Conduct Medals to Corporal Colclough, Lance Corporals Taylor and Clarke. The presentation took place out- side the Headquarters of 16 Battalion with a guard formed from RFC Course personnel under the command of W02 M. A. O'Malley. After the ceremony a buffet lunch was held in the Regimental Training Wing. — Brigadier Green with Lance Corporal Taylor and family after the presentation. 'A' COMPANY. With Lance Corporals being pulled in to assist with Guard Duties because of the current shortage of private soldiers, all ranks in the Company are eagerly waiting for a flood of new blood in October—hopefully arriving in time to join in Shadow Unit training in Germany! In addition to members on detachment to Cyprus, Kenya, Canada, Belize and the Falkland Islands, we have sent soldiers to assist at Bisley, The Royal Tournament, The RAOC Sailing Regatta and CSM McLean has acted as the logistic adviser at the Greenham Common Air Display. We welcome W02 Vincent, Lance Corporal Shaw and Private Bywater and wish good luck to Corporal Howe on entering civilian life as well as Lance Corporal Peacey and Private McGee on detachment to the Falklands— at least they will get another summer! ' B ' COMPANY. July has brought us a new CSM and Admin Officer. To ' resupply' the hot seats we have Captain Brian Errington-Weddle. So far during the month that he has been in station we have discovered that he plays squash, tinkers about on his MG and loves sending really heavy MFO boxes across from BAOR, as our backs discovered. The CSM is W02 (CSM) Steve Duke. He also plays squash—always plays with the new Admin Officer though and we wonder if the AO ever loses. Our resident, when he isn't sailing; Company Clerk, Lance Corporal Nick Neilson, is at last smiling after he found out that he has been posted to Northern Ireland. We're not sure if he's happy to be going to Northern Ireland or he's happy to be leaving Bicester. No! It couldn't be the latter could it? In the middle of the month the Company Office Staff signed out their combats from the QM and decided to take the lads from the Sub-Depot on an exercise, to show them what a real exercise is. So off they all trotted to Sandhurst Training Area to practice section attacks and Shadow Training on Exercise Camberley Canter. What more could you ask for: a lovely weekend sleeping, (Golden Blanket award went to the AO), under the pine trees, walking through the woods in the searing sun with bits of thick canvas on your back. What we couldn't understand was where the CSM and our Training Sergeant went to from mid-day Saturday until mid-day Sunday? We all know the Sergeants Mess Summer Ball was on that weekend but surely they didn't go to it"? Having been expertly trained in our COD we say goodbye to the following who have been sent forth into the wilderness to pass on their knowledge to various units. Sergeant Hussey, Corporal Brian Jacobs, Lance Corporal Mick Brown, Corporal Slim Bristier and Private Chris Connor. Welcomed to our COD and Company this month we have Privates Willie Williams and Pat Dunford. ' D ' COMPANY. Last month proved to be very busy for ' D ' Company, the main event has been the WRAC Adventure Train- ing Exercise, Fells Dragon* in the Lake District. The exercise took place at Low Wray Camp near Windermere. The Bicester party of thirteen girls were joined by two WRAC potential PTTs from Aldershot, plus two girls from Guildford, WRAC Centre. Captain Mike Johnson, 3 PARA, was our ever patient Windsurfing Instructor, and Staff Sergeant Ian Gore PTI, taught us everything from canoeing to cursing PJLs. Private Paul Gravestock (alias Gravycube) completed a good task as our 182 — |
