Transcription congratulations must go to W 2 Baker for being awarded ' Man
of the Match.' Well done lads.
HEADQUARTERS
COMPANY.
We have said farewell to
Major Bennet who has departed to sample the delights of the
Middle East by serving with BRITFORLEB. Sergeant Stan
Brown has also departed (third time lucky) to see if the locals
use the same 'Arrows' as he does in Belize! Rumour has it
that he is managing to squeeze in some work in between swim-
ming, snorkling and siestas! Continuing with farewells, we bid
bon voyage to Corporal Straw to Wulfen, Corporal Cook (ACC)
to Fallingbostel and Lance Corporal Smith to Paderborn. All the
best in your new postings.
We welcome Corporal Featherstone (ACC) from Blandford,
Corporals Zimmerman and Leishman from the delights of
Hong Kong. (There's no LOA here!)
91 ORDNANCE COMPANY.
We welcome back to our fo'd
those gallant LRS members who have been slumming it in
Kenya. (Jambo). These are Lieutenant Hardy, Staff Sergeant
Toze, Corporal Simmons and Lance Corporal Cuthbertson.
(Did you remember to bring the Chief Clerks Coffee?) Soon,
more LRS members will be departing to various parts of the
world.
We say farewell to Staff Sergeant Toze to 7 RHA, Sergeant
Duff to 73 Ordnance Company (V), Sergeant Latta to RSC
Sutton Coldfield for his last few months, Private Evans to
BAOR, Private Harrison to the South Atlantic, Private Jordan
to Antwerp and Private Gallagher to Ascension.
In their places we welcome Staff Sergeant Jones, Sergeants
Gilfillan, Hope and O'Byrne, Lance Corporals Davies and
Powell, Privates Le Feurve and Patterson.
11 Ord nance Battalion (EOD)
WITH the new Headquarters office accommodation Hearing
completion we say welcome to W02 Phil Marriott and Staff
Sergeant Mick Warden (not another Mick at Headquarters!)
as Battalion Chief Clerk and NCO IC Operations Centre
respectively. Enjoy your tours fellows.
On the sporting scene we did manage to draft together
thirteen willing hands from around the country to represent the
Battalion in the DGOS Cricket Cup. After some very exciting
cricket we lost in the final to 9 Ordnance Battalion by thirteen
runs. I wonder if we can have indoor nets built, attached to
the Headquarters building, in preparation for next year?
521 Company's response to repeated requests for notes has
been answered with comments such as; the OC and SAT are
on holiday in Canada! (can't be bad for some). This holiday
under the guise of an inspection must have been to give them
a rest after their IED Licensing Exercise in early June. It
just goes to show that some people cannot stand the pace.
Perhaps age is beginning to tell.
621 Company did much better. As you read on you will
notice that owing to the current heatwave the social event of
the year was a Houns'ow Detachment Barbeque organised by
Staff Sergeant Chris Edgeworth and Sergeant Bob Revill. Un-
fortunately Staff Sergeant Chris Edgeworth wasn't sure how to
fit the tap on the lager barrel and was forced to consume
the first twenty pints on the afternoon prior to the event.
Rumour has it that the whole thing was an exercise to see how
many ATs it takes to light a barbeque. The answer: six, two
pints of petrol and the right size lumps of charcoal.
On the sporting side Sergeants Bob Scott, Bob Revill,
Corporals Tich Town and Bill Sutton represented the Battalion
in the final of the DGOS Cricket Cup. Staff Sergeant Jack Kelly
continues to be a thorn in the side of the sedentary members
of the detachment as he strives to convert them to marathon
runners, or even half marathon runners. He can be seen daily,
trying to wear out the soles of his new ' Balance' running shoes.
W02 John Edwards has been accepted for work study train-
ing and leaves us at the end of the year.
The Company has said farewell during the last two months
to Staff Sergeant Nick Nicholaides to Oman, Staff Sergeant Ben
Bienkowski to Canada and Corporal Baz Ennds, Royal Signals
to BAOR, smile lads and think of the LOA.
As for the arrivals, we have a defector from North of the
border in the form of Staff Sergeant Bob Clay who has joined
our Ashford Detachment and Corporal Jock MacVicar, Royal
Signals from BAOR to Company Headquarters, not forgetting
Sergeant Martin Epton who has returned from Northern Ireland
after failing to find any five hundred pound aircraft bombs in
the Province.
721 Company appear to be struggling for a script writer.
The high spot of the last month must have been the Licensing
Exercise at Hereford. The weather stayed bright for the whole
of the exercise and we managed to blow up an American EOD
operator.
