Headquarters BAOR
COMBAT SUPPLIES, like the other branches,
has been somewhat depleted during the month
by the relentless heat and the siren calls of
Italy, Spain and the Costa del Falklands.
Corporal Charlie Watts of BFT and hockey
fame is our latest penguin person. We wish
him bon voyage. By the time these notes appear
in print! (beware the dangers of prophesy!)
Your correspondent was wrong about two
things last month. First Major Richard Hazlerigg
had not taken over by the time those notes etc
He, the
good Major, is still in Berlin and will be, when these notes
appear. Must be the lure of the Schultheiss that keeps him
there! Second error was to give Major Peter Hewlett the slimmer
of the month award. An irate Miss Daphne Adams assures us
that she has lost a larger (but undisclosed) number of stones than
the aforementioned pale shadow of his former self. The S of M
award is hereby officially transferred. Well done Daphne!
Keep it up (or down).
Lieutenant Colonel David Watt of the firm next door is also
trying to lose another stone! Corporal Tim Colbum returned
to the fleshpots of Wulfen during the month and Corporal
Simon Goodband from the Ammo Insp Walsrode replaced him.
Hello and goodbye to you both. Also in the Ammo world,
Major Alan Glasby has been breaking fresh ground by represent-
ing Rheindahlen Garrison at cricket. Reports that he adopted
the kneeling position on his first visit to the crease, with bat
firmly pulled into the shoulder and scored three bulls and an
inner on the incoming bowler seem to be unfounded. Finally we
must apologise to the retired officer to whom we referred last
month as, ' a battle-scared veteran,' this should of course, have
read: " a bottle-scarred veteran."
We must congratulate Major Richard Rhodes on winning
first prize in the ' Comd Log Bn F I ' Competition, his reward
is a six months summer holiday in the ' Isles.' Major Adam
Woodward planned a two week holiday in a new villa in Spain,
on seeing that the new villa was a single basement build-
ing, he adjourned to a flat in the nearby town, ' Manjana.'
Captain Mike Noblett has with great regret decided to give his
summer vacation a miss and instead to pack MFO boxes in the
back garden prior to his impending departure to Berlin.
Corporal Andy Wilson went to Sussex University for a week
long seminar towards his Open University degree, on his return'
it was noted that he had put on five pounds in weight, the
power of learning is a wondrous thing.
From around the Staff branches this month
WOl (Conductor) Mike Bondsfield has left us on commission-
ing, our best wishes go with him. We would like to welcome
WOl Mike Charlesworth who is the new boss of the G2
empire. Mike joined us from the Falkland Islands and has
threatened to tell us his ' War Stories' during the next exercise!
W02 Derek Brignall having completed his twenty two has
retired and is now heading with his family to Australia, our best
wishes go with them. W 2 Bob Bate quickly moved sideways
from G3 O and D to take Dereks place as CC BRSC Ops.
Our congratulations on their substantive promotion go to
Staff Sergeant Alan Rutledge and Sergeant Al Smart.
Comings and goings this month . . . Out, to fantastic Falling-
bostel, Lance Corporal Taff Woodman, in his place Lance
Corporal Graham Donohue. Good luck to you both. Finally,
goodbye to Private Lynn Southern from Registry, in her place we
welcome Private Carol Bullock, we hope you enjoy your stay!
British Forces A n t w e r p
THE Headquarters would like to take this opportunity in
congratulating the Commander, Colonel Brian Harding on his
award of the CBE on the last Queen's Birthday Honours list, and
also to Staff Sergeant Bob Briggs who was awarded the BEM.
Congratulations are also in order for one of our very
best loved characters: Super ' Q ' MSI Arthur Harvey who was
recently promoted to the rank shown. Hope the uptake in
promotion doesn't spur on increased PT sessions 'Q.'
On to the general news now, starting off with the topic of
sports/training afternoons.
One of these entailed patrolling
across the border of Grobbland and capturing Angus McHaggis,
alias Sergeant John Hunter, and bringing him back alive for
trial. After miles of marching, lake crossing and tree stamping,
IC patrol Corporal Frank Sambrook decided if we found Mc-
Haggis he certainly wasn't coming back alive. McHaggis, who
served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in the past
must have heard about this for he found refuge in the shape of
our helicopter (minibus) home.
Next in line was the Commanders Trophy Athletics meet-
ing. Of the four events run, BFA finished an overall sixth.
Our only victory came in the four by one hundred metres
relay, where Corporal John McLeod RE, Lance Corporal Ian
Harrison RMP, QMSI Arthur Harvey APTC and Private George
Petrie RAOC finished with ten metres to spare after crossing
the line. It was even suggested by one of the other team com-
petitors that we should try next time.
Commiserations go to Major Peter Shute after receiving
a posting order extending him for another four months.
Lastly, but not least, we say farewell to Suzie, our civilian
clerk who has gone to look after PUE stocks in CSD, but wel-
come to her able replacement Gerda.

THE accent this month is on sport. Congratulations go to our
small bore snooting team (Sergeant Keogh, Corporals Hughes
and Carey and Lance Corporal Oakley) who not only won the
BAOR RAOC cup but on being selected to represent BAOR
defeated the UK RAOC units to win the Home Cup.
Private Bucknell has been selected for BAOR Corps
Cricket, rumour has it his extension in Belgium will be favour-
ably viewed by Lieutenant Colonel Grant the CO.
Lastly, Mrs O'Brien, the wife of our Planning Officer,
has started the squash season by being ranked as No. 2 in
Belgium, first Belgium! then the world!
We welcome back to ODA Corporal Crocker and Lance
Corporal Preston after their tours of duty in the Falklands, and
we congratulate Lance Corporal Preston on his recent pro-
motion to that rank. W02 Rolfe has been despatched to FI in
the rank of WOl as preparatory training for Exercise Lionheart.
We congratulate the following personnel on their recent
marriages: W 2 Keelor, Corporal Crocker, Lance Corporal
Docherty, Privates Hodkins and Balogh.
We say farewell to the following and thank them for their
support during their tours at ODA: Staff Sergeant Worth,
Corporal Russell, Lance Corporals Plumbley, Robinson and
McGarry ACC, Privates Blackman and Bingham.
Congratulations must go to Staff Sergeant and Mrs Bill
Holmes on the birth of their son Mark James and to Lance
Corporal and Mrs Kavanagh on the birth of their son Dean.
Other arrivals this month are Corporal Allison, Lance
Corporals Lewis and Jeffers, Privates Jasper and Marshall.

72 ORDNANCE COMPANY (V) spent
their annual camp at Bracht, where they
worked hard and played hard. A lot of
new friends were made and old friend-
ships rekindled. Certainly the bar sales
have dropped since they left.
The triannual round the Fence Mili-
tary Skills Competition was successfully
completed by seven teams.
All regi-
mental subjects were practiced on the
nine mile course. The winning team was
Corporal Strong, Privates Pickford, Gooden and Stant, best
individual performance was by Lance Corporal Diggle.
