Pete Potter, Corporal Dave Straw, Lance Corporal Tony Brown and Private Les Graham and farewells to Staff Sergeant Scobie Kirtley and Corporal Pete Ellis, the latter who departed on promotion. Finally, congratulations to Lance Corporal Neil Graham and his wife Sandra, on the birth of their daughter Danielle Marie. FVD RECKLINGHAUSEN WAS it only two weeks ago when Sergeant Les Law sat in the VCC and said that the small number of issues this year would let him get off on leave quite soon. Obviously the room is bugged because we have suddenly been hit by a deluge of issues. I thought it was only in cartoons that they wanted something delivered by yesterday! The frenzied activity has been most felt by Liaison and R and I where Staff Sergeant Chris Allen and Sergeant Pete Gee have been seen to be cracking the whip harder than usual. Of course, all departments have been affected to some extent. The relocation of vehicles by Storage has slowed down, while Private Boris Hincks, who runs the GLI, is accusing every- one of shuffling his T-cards as he cannot find anything he is looking for! Strange sights and sounds have been heard in and around Maintenance. Lance Corporal Steve Bishop is walking around in flip-flops and shorts commenting that he is just acclimatising for his next posting to Cyprus. Meanwhile three feet below in the pit Lance Corporal Kev Parkin can be heard grunting " I hope that it's nice at Ashchurch at this time of year." Still, when Corporal Bill Stott takes charge sanity should return. In spite of the extra workload Lance Corporal Bob Willcocks still found time to carry out some modifications to the paint spray booth. Well done, Bob. In spite of the increased activity we managed to find time to organise our annual Motor Bike Exercise Hard Ride. The event was a great success with special thanks to ASM Colin Payne from our Workshop who organised it aided by CSM Tug Wilson and Private Mel Blazier. The prize winners have demanded a mention so here goes—Daren Payne (son of the ASM!), Privates Paul Vasquez, Chippy Carpenter, Paul Black- bum, Brummie Sheldon, Mick Kibble and John Harding. A special prize went to Private Slattery who claimed he was certain to win if his bike had not broken down. That reminds me of the quote about our football team who often claim that they would have won if they had scored more goals than the opposition. Private Richardson deserves a mention after his fine efforts on his motorbike if only to say that we all hope the plaster comes off his leg soon. One sports afternoon was devoted to a mini Superstars con- test with such notable events as football, hockey, basketball and even swimming. The two individual winners were Lance Corporal Gonzo Shanks and Private Jed Naughton and the winning team led by Corporal Bill Stott just happened to include our OC, Major Charles Bayley. Congratulations go to Lance Corporal Paddy Rhodes on having a baby girl Anna. You do not look any slimmer Paddy! Congratulations also go to Private Ian Webber on promotion and to Privates Dave Streets, Mac McCormack and Murph Murphy on being selected for promotion. Lance Corporal Paddock has finally popped the question to Lance Corporal Michelle Baker WRAC who works at Wulfen Station (she said yes). We welcome Lance Corporal Geoff Crossley R Signals as our new ' bleep' and bid farewell to Corporal Taylor on posting to Dulmen and Corporal Bob Dougall ACC on posting to Aldershot. I hope they are as complimentary about your cook- ing as we were. 1st British Corps A Jk M^L ^ t ^ ^ HEADQUARTERS RAOC WELCOME back to the fold Sergeant Bruce Watson from the Falklands, Private Volwerk from training and Mrs Alison Fisher our new clerk/ ^ • ^ ^ r ^ B ^m ^^^ ^m Congratulations to Lance Corporal Haywood on his promotion and engagement but farewell on posting to Headquarters BFFI. We also say au-revoir and good luck to Mrs Jo Williams who has left us to accompany her husband on posting to, Camberley. HEADQUARTERS COORDINATION. For those of you who don't know (you would be surprised!) Headquarters Coordination comprises of many services, namely: a Reproduction facility, a Courier and Signal facility, Typing Pool, Post Room, Datic, — 1 Stationery, and even a rubbish bag cremation service! To cut a short story short, if you want something—go to Headquarters Coordination. If they haven't got it, they will get it for you (or at least they think they will). Our S02, Captain Fred Stephenson, keeps the Head- quarters running smoothly (well, he tries his hardest) along with his second in command WOl Alan Govier. The other staff clerks are Privates Tony Baillie and Andy Woollatt. The Chief Clerk, Sergeant Mick James, joined the branch on an internal move (no, I haven't done anything wrong) at the beginning of July. The other military members of the branch being: Staff Sergeant Carol Gill, Corporal Jill Eastlake, Lance Corporals Marcia Potts and Eileen Macdonald, our reps from the WRAC: Corporals Tom Brown and Steve Hopper our reps from the RPC. There are even more civilian staff, too numerous to mention. All in all one big, busy happy family (or at least I think it is). By the time these notes appear we will have said goodbye to Private Tony Baillie who is leaving us for a tour with 5 Ord- nance Battalion after spending quite a few years in and out of the Headquarters and Private Andy Woollatt who is leaving us for 9 Ordnance Battalion. WOl Alan Govier leaves us at the end of October on retirement. Best of luck to you all for what- ever the future may hold. On the sporting side the branch was well represented in the Coe Cup Swimming with Sergeant James and Private Woollatt along with the rest of the team putting in a fine effort only to be beaten in the final. We didn't do so well in the hockey but we hold second place overall after two events. On this sporting note we say farewell as the Chief Clerk plans to get everyone out for their BFT. PS. Welcome to Privates Andrews, Edmonds, Volwerk, Standaloft, Burns and Cockburn who have joined the Head- quarters from the Apprentices College. Hope you enjoy your tour. 1 Ordnance Battalion 11 ORDNANCE COMPANY JULY was one of the busiest months in Soltau for a long time. The highlight being unit field firing at Vogelsang.
