The Chief Clerk organised a tennis competition. 1 was knocked out in the first round, but then 1 was never any good. was 1 Mum? Anyway. Private Carmichael astounded everyone by beating Captain Hendy, followed by W02 Dawson. He was beaten in the final by the favourite. Corporal Bateson. The Officers/Sergeants Messes v JRC cricket match was won by the better team although the Officers and Sergeants would probably not agree. A great time was had by all though! That's all I can think of for the moment, Mum. I'll write again soon. Your loving son. Eddie. Welcome to: Sergeant McTaggart. Lance Corporal Harrison, Privates Williams and Smith on their return from the Falkland Islands. Farewell to: Corporal Holmes and family on his promotion to Sergeant, Staff Sergeant Stevens and family. Lance Corporals King and Regan (congrats on your promotion) and Private Livens. Congratulations to: W02 Moffat on his receiving his Com- mander British Forces Falkland Islands commendation. Lance Corporals Aver}' and Stepin. also Private Evans on passing their Bl Pet Op Upgrading course. Lieutenant Crosby organised an energetic first week of train- ing which included APWT. First Aid and NBC testing under the tear-full eye of Sergeant Leach. Fivc-a-sidc football in full NBC kit did much to maintain morale although some of our foot- ball stars found the kissing and hugging rather difficult when a goal was scored. Section attacks proved interesting. Lance Corpora! Beat demonstrated how to quickly change the colour of his combat kit from green to brown to blend in with the back- ground and Lance Corporal Stubbs. resplendent in his off the shoulder black coveralls made a very' fetching enemy. The final phase of the Escape and Evasion exercise saw Private Sowcrby trying to kill a chicken by hypnosis and Private Wood winning the 'Wringer' of the year award under the watchful gaze of our Master Chef. W02 Sexton. CSM Wrcy- ford's words of encouragement to the abseilcrs. echoed across the Dicmelsee in the early hours of the morning and had many of the local Germans reaching for their English phrascbook ! The adventure training phase in week two took place in glorious weather which allowed the posers led by Corporal Goddard and Private Crossland to show off their bronzed bodies to one and all. Many attempts were made at wind standing (wind surfing will be tried next year). Private O'Neill became the first man to carry a work ticket on a surf board clenched between his teeth—the work ticket, not the surf board. The re- run of the 66 World Cup proved too much for our hosts. No. 3 Company of 63 Panzerbataillon who were defeated eleven one. On the last night of camp the CO. Lieutenant Colonel Ford. visited us and presented the South Atlantic medal with rosscttc to Private Waite. The inter-section football/volleyball com- petition (which was well organised by Corporals Rowlands and Thomhiil) was won by No. 3 Section: Corporal Buttery. Lance Corporal Peters. Privates Walker. Sowcrby. Gill. Crossland and Craftsman Wall; they narrowly and luckily beat the Officers and Senior ranks team even though the CO played. The win- ning section have now almost finished their reward of extra duties! Back in the Depot all is fairly quiet. On the sports scene. the Company narrowly defeated our old enemy 51 Ordnance Company by winning the Battalion tennis competition and Corporal Halliwell and Private Pentland have represented the Corps (BAOR) at cricket. Our congratulations to W02 Brooks and Staff Sergeant 52 ORDNANCE COMPANY \VE were recently favoured by a visit from the House of Lords. We are given to understand they left suitably impressed. This was followed by a visit from the Command Fire Adviser to carry out the annual inspection on our fire station, which is ably commanded by Herr Kurt Husemann. Needless to say, they passed with flying colours. As reported in the last issue, the Battalion Connaught Shield team comprised mainly of 52 Company personnel, are now demanding recognition of their efforts and so we offer the attached photograph as a tribute, no apology is offered for their battle damaged state as they had just finished a gruelling com- J.
