for sunnier climes wearing new rank as well (congratulations),

Ministry of Defence
GREETINGS from the staff ACGS
(OR) in the MOD. This months in-
stalment is penned by the clerical sup-
port of OR Sec 2—there is only one!
(Sergeant Chris Pattinson.)
The news from the branches in
the Old War Office is that the Chief
Clerk of OR 12 Staff Sergeant Bill Mc-
Clemon has returned from leave to an enormous In-Tray that
his staff had kindly saved for him. Staff Sergeant John Flannagan
in OR 23 is beginning to wonder what this strange and wonder-
ful thing called leave is, and whether he is entitled to any! Don't
despair John you may have Christmas off.
Staff Sergeant Tim Graham, Sergeant Garry Middleton and
myself are all shortly to embark upon our EPC(A). We are
all at the moment desperately trying to remember something
of our EPC and school lives, thankfully they now allow
calculators in the EPC(A) course and exam.
The season of BFTs is upon us and sweaty bodies can be
seen (if you are quick) pounding the tarmac around St James'
Park. Here in the MOD BFTs are conducted around the
perimetre of Chelsea Hospital, so at least it is not too far
away from the intensive care ward if and when you get around
the course. The SA has promised that if dress rehearsals are
needed for the BFT he will kindly put on extra runs for the
less fortunate ones who are not naturally fit—all this and modesty
with it!
Finally a few words of welcome and farewell. We have wel-
comed into the fold Sergeant Garry Middleton from Head-
quarters AFSOUTH, Mrs Elsie Hardy has now retired from OR
Sec 1 Sy after giving many years of sterling service to the
Directorate, we wish her all the best for the future. Finally,
farewell from the Directorate and the Army to Staff Sergeant
Trevor Allison who has decided that now he has been awarded
his BEM to ' call it a day,' we wish him well in ' civvy street,'
office parties will never be the same without him.
The Army Staff College, Camberley
NEWS from 'Staff College Camberley' has
been limited if non-existent for the last
year or so. So if you can bear with the
Author, I would like to highlight the years
comings and goings. Corporal D'Almeida
left for Germany on promotion, and
Corporal Chris Little taking over as NCO
I/C Alanbrooke Hall. Mr Sid Laxton
retired after over twenty years loyal
service, Sid was awarded the ISM earlier
this year. In January we said our farewells and goodbyes to
Captain Tim Lill who was posted to Blackdown (not very far
away). We are thankful for all the advice he handed over to
Captain Peter Snow our present S03 Coord, Wally Noden the
Vufoil op-model room assistant left and is now repairing
musical instruments in Camberley.
March welcomed Lieutenant Colonel Owen Brady as our
Computer, expert. Lieutenant Colonel Alan Allkins is still with
us and does a great song and dance routine at the opening of
all Log presentations (ably assisted by Colonel Coord and the
Log team).
August we said our farewells to Staff Sergeant Mick Mullins

Training Centre
TRAINING BATTALION AND DEPOT
A sharp turn for the worse in the weather has prompted a run on
Major Boilers' stock of Jerseys heavy wool as permanent staff
and recruits alike attempt to ward off the cold: those lazy days
of summer are now only a memory, and the winter training
season has started in earnest. Meanwhile, the new Adjutant,
Captain Pat Callan is trying to understand why the Subalterns
should vie with each other for the distinction of being the first
to receive ' the call.'
Training Company offices are buzzing, and with six Platoons
in training there should be work enough for everyone. The
buzz coming from Second Lieutenant Neil Selling is of a different
kind, as he plans how to become only a part-time member of the
Company by organizing a ski-ing exercise.
The grand old Duke of York would have been proud to
have numbered amongst his men Staff Sergeant Dolan, Corporal
Keeney and Lance Corporal Smith. Bored with 'Heartbreak Hill'
our running trio entered the Ben Nevis race. Not content with
merely taking part, however, they won the Combined Services
prize beating teams from the Royal Marines, Royal Navy,
Royal Air Force and other Army Units, and took first prize in
the ' Non Scottish Division.' Winning is not an unusual thing
for Corporal Keeney: he came first in the recent Mount
Snowdon race too. Staff Sergeant Dolan did well coming
fourteenth. Many congratulations to all of you.
Some of the old faces have gone—farewell to Major Tony
Bridges now in Manchester, to Captain Geoff Cox, who leaves
