Transcription next year when they tell me you have agreed to let them do a
series of five tests about the West Indies!
Oh yes, the Unit Christmas lunch promises to be a grand
affair; we've had a vote in your absence and your football
pool winnings are going towards the cost. One can't get much
for 2p nowadays though.
Headquarters Scotland
THE Commander Supply, Lieutenant
Colonel John Hambly, recently sum-
moned relatives from the corners of
Europe to celebrate his and Sigi's Silver
Wedding. A point for which all staff offer
their warmest wishes for the future.
The Tattoo is one of many attractions
which lets us bid welcome to ' Long
Lookers' who include Major Evans and
Major Boyd, Captain Moule and WOl
Kerr, all from the Royal Australian Army
Ordnance Corps. Edinburgh is known
world wide for its Festival, principal
among which is the Tattoo, so this is no surprise. Corps support
from the show ranges from the Headquarters buying its rations,
through RD Stirling's loaning foul weather kit to the Sappers
on lighting to the Edinburgh Detachment of 521 Company
playing its EOD part.
The summer camp of 22 Company RAOC from Middles-
borough allowed DOWO, ROWO and Major Powell (who
for once laid his bagpipe aside) to go parascending at the Royal
Marine Base, Condor. Odd that chaps in green berets were all
to be seen digging-in!
What of the future? The incoming DOWO and ROWO,
Messrs Towers-Clarke and Potts respectively, have completed
initial visits. For obvious reasons, Fire Inspections take on a
new pulse and already investigations are in hand to determine
the scope of our participation in the 1986 Commonwealth
Games. Edinburgh may be a few paces ' left close' of the
FEBA but by gum, it's active.
WO I Towers Clark is a most welcome arrival as our new
DOWO and regretfully we part with his predecessor ' Desperate
D a n ' Malone to whom we wish all good fortune as a civilian.
REGIONAL
DEPOT RAOC
STIRLING
WE said farewell to Major Don Young and his ever supportive
wife Bea from Scotland and presented him with a sharp, shiny
reminder of his stay North of the Border; a mounted Sghian-
Dubh! We hope they will have fond memories of their last
year with the Corps in Stirling crowning as it does for Don
over thirty four years of service in the Army. In his place we
welcomed Captain Jim Murray from Headquarters 1 British Corps.
It is with deep regret that we have to report the death of our
Chief Clerk, Mrs Iris Scott in Stirling Royal Infirmary from
cancer. Iris was a happy cheerful colleague, well known to
many in the Corps, having worked at the Depot as a typist from
1958 to 1972 and from then as Chief Clerk. In her memory,
contributions from the staff of the Depot were sent to the
Cancer Research Fund.
South W e s t District
FIRST of all we offer our congratulations to
Captain Peter Osborne on his marriage to
Sally Anne. With a little ' help from their
friends' we managed to get a married officer's
quarter for the happy couple to return to after
their honeymoon. To Sally we are delighted to
welcome you into the Corps.
The Branch had its annual Barbeque
outside (not quite) the District Headquarters.
Although we were hidden in the bushes, the
GOC kept remarking from his office on the
delightful smell of steaks, sausages and garlic bread all being
cooked by our ROWO—W02 Jim Sharrock. The sun shone and
we spent a very nice lunch hour.
Congratulations are due to Major Terry Mitford on his pro-
motion to Lieutenant Colonel. He has been selected as Com-
mander Supply Eastern District in late December 1983.
We are sorry to have to say farewell to Major Jim Duncan
one of our Retired Officers. He is retiring a little prematurely

as he has commuted from his home to Gloucester, firstly to
Taunton, and from 1978 to Bulford and feels he should now
give his wife Kathy a little more of his time.
Another long serving member of the District to go on retire-
ment is Mr Jack Hockley our Stores Officer Grade ' C ' and
Officer Commanding OSU Coypool. We wish him and his family
a very happy retirement.
To his successor, Mr Douglas Livermore who has served
before in the District, we welcome you back and wish you a
successful and happy tour as Officer Commanding.
We have also just heard that Private Paul Sugden and Janet
Murch are to be married in Tidworth. Janet is the daughter of
our ex-Master at Arms, Major Maurice Murch APTC. Paul
serves as a RAOC Staff Clerk in G3 (Trg) of this Headquarters.
They have managed to get a quarter and will move in almost
immediately. To Janet and Paul we wish them much happiness
and a bright future together.
We seem to be in the season of farewells. Conductor
Archie Claydon who has been working hard in the Headquarters
arranging the installation of the ' stand alone' computer in our
District Headquarters leaves the service in November. He has
been educating the officers and staff as to the information that
can be stored and reproduced on the computer. He leaves the
Corps after a long and distinguished career to become a
Market Trader in the West Country. His wife Anne, who is our
Documents Office Clerk will, we are delighted to say, be staying
on as they own their own home in Devizes. To Archie we send
our best wishes for a successful future—he can rest assured we
shall look after Anne.
Captain Alan Gower, OC Stores Section RAOC 27 Command
Workshop REME handed over his appointment after three years
to Captain Del Henty. Captain Gower has now gone to DSM(A)
and we are sure we shall see him at our lunches. To Captain
Henty we hope he will enjoy his stint with us.
Phillip Warren one of the Branch Clerical Officers also
left us in September after three years for another appointment
in Bulford. He is not far away and we feel sure we shall see
a lot of him, to his successor, Corinne Allen we extend a wel-
come. We are delighted to see that she is maintaining the same
high standard of good looks as the rest of our girls!
SUPPLY DEPOT BULFORD
THE Supply Depot Bulford was honoured on 14th July 1983 by
a visit from the Director General of Supplies and Transport
(Naval) MOD, Mr Pritchard, who numbers among his many
responsibilities that of Single Service Manager for food. He
was initially briefed by the Commander Supply South West
District and the OC Supply Depot before commencing a tour of
the Storehouses and Butchery.
Our well known flair for entertaining high powered visitors
continued when we welcomed to the Unit Major General
Whalley. The DGOS impressed us all with his eagerness to
talk to as many of the staff as possible, and his interest in the
role of the Depot
