Western District WE open this month with the welcome return of the ROWO—W02 Scott—from the Falklands. After an uneventful journey to the UK a transport hitch left him stranded at Brize Norton in the early hours of a cold and dismal morn- ing. We will do our best Brian to get it right on your next FI tour! Just when we thought the leave exodus was over Major Steve Goldring is off for a fortnight in' Barbados. The lengths he will go to for a game of cricket and to escape work never ceases to amaze us. During his absence the DOWO—SSM Terry Jones—is look- ing after the Mat Section and already the strain is beginning to tell. Only the other day he actually had a hair cut finished with a high quality shine. Such idiosyncrasy and extravagance is hopefully temporary and we look forward to a speedy recovery. We said farewell this month to Mrs Dorothy Dickson the wife of our Chief Clerk Staff Sergeant Ian Dickson. Dorothy has returned to the family home in Scotland to take up a job in CAD Longtown, prior to the CC's retirement next year. Our very best wishes Dorothy for the future and the rumours of Ian living it up in Shrewsbury are only half true. On the social side an enjoyable event was the Donnington Branch Association St Ledger Draw and Dance at 72 Ordnance Company (V) TA Centre. Our thanks go to Captain Jock Forrest and his Committee in organising a very pleasant evening. North West District WE welcomed Colonel Owen, the OIC RAOC Manning and Record Office recently. / \^ His visit was most welcome and allowed / \ . X. him to speak to a fair share of RAOC / \. >, soldiers serving in the District. He also 4 B H M V met those hard working members of the ^^^^^K^^T Corps, who keep the flag flying in the ^^^^|fr Recruiting Offices. Lunch allowed Colonel ^^^^^ Owen to meet the Staff and the Officers of ^W Supply Branch, we really must have a longer lunch period for the next visit! Lieutenant Colonel Danger our RO S02 Sup (Mat) and continuity man, had a relaxing day recently when he carried out a pre-ARU visit on a sub unit of 4 Para (V). He returned with a spring in his step and a gleam in his eye, so that is what wearing those coveted wings does for a man. We wait to hear if our Ferret Plinth Vehicle at the OSU is to be withdrawn to warmer climates! Are the tyres really full of concrete? We have heard little recently from 42 Infantry Brigade, apart from the fact that the clerks always say they are busy. Welcome to Private Powell G2/G3 Branch and Private Moreland G2/G3 Branch Headquarters 42 Infantry Brigade and Private Toomey G3 Ops (O and D) clerk in the Headquarters, and we say fare- well to Private Cawley (oddly enough, after his interview with Colonel Owen!) who has now drawn his 'Know you breeds of Sheep ' book and is heading for the Falklands y^V Headquarters North East District and Headquarters Second Infantry Division l^——- NOW to catch up on the happenings at ^^^^^_ this joint Headquarters. Our intrepid ^ ^ ^ Superintendent Clerk WOl Bill Rule is \ I I recovering from his ordeal with the rf\ I national Press having free fallen for British « X • Rail—flying their flag which, on opening his parachute, wrapped around his rigging lines. A safe landing was made. Belated congratulations to Corporal Tim Royle and Lance Corporal Ian Side- bottom for their promotion. W02 Danny Martell our stalwart Chief Clerk G1/G4, walks around the Headquarters aimlessly and hopelessly trying to recruit ageing Civil Servants to join him in orienteering.Major Andrew Byles has found time to gain his Coastal Skippers ticket—well done! We welcome back Staff Sergeant Mell Kingston from his tour with Port Stanley Penguins. HEADQUARTERS 15 INFANTRY BRIGADE. We have been preparing the Headquarters and the Brigade for the TA Annual Camp which is on one of our more popular training areas (Costa del Salisbury)! Captain Eddie Weeks has returned from Exercise Summer Sales sporting a bronze look. Where he found the sun is classified information! Congratulations are in order for two of our junior Clerks on their promotions, Lance Corporals Eddie Burrow and Vince Young, the latter who has just left us to join the troops in Northern Ireland. Good luck and congratulations go to both. STORES PLATOON J2 AIR DEFENCE REGIMENT. We bid a happy and hopefully uneventful tour to Sergeant Dick Good- field and his team of Lance Corporal Taylor, Privates Holmes, Harvey, Burns, Fletcher and McMunn as they disappear to the sheep farming community in the South Atlantic. Sergeant Goodfield and Private McMunn who barely had time to get their feet under the table in Kirton, were not amused. Not having heard much from that part of the world since, we assume they are still in shock. Sergeant Alan Duncan and his crew of Corporals Whitley and Goodman, Lance Corporal Stout, Privates Collins, Biggin, Selvey and Hemsley, went off into the wild blue yonder in support of 58 Battery to savour the delights of Catterick, Stan- ford and Salisbury Plain on Exercise Tiger Rush and Exercise Rough Diamond. Meanwhile, Sergeant Pete Lynch and his merry band of Corporal Elliot, Lance Corporals Ainsworth and Parker, Privates Lethbridge, Wood, Rutherford and Manning, were also involved in Rough Diamond supporting 9 Battery and then first off to the Hebrides for Firing Camp. Holding the fort back in Kirton were W02 Chris Hadfield, Lance Corporals Eden and Dickson, Sergeant Cummin and Private McLearnon. Welcome to Sergeant Goodfield, Corporals Elliot, Whitley, Lance Corporals Bryant and Dickson, wives and families and to Corporal Goodman, Lance Corporal Stout, Privates McLearnon, Manning and McMunn, we hope you all enjoy your tour with us. Farewells to: Captain Peter McGhie to BATUS, Corporal Crombie, Lance Corporal Ainsworth and Private Beattie to BAOR and Lance Corporal Eden to Warminster. STORES SECTION 49 FIELD REGIMENT RA WORKSHOP. Congratulations to two members of the Stores Section who have deservedly been selected for promotion to their next higher rank. They are A/Lance Corporal Conway and Private Taff Weaving. We also say hello to our new Boss WOl Harry Butcher from sunny Belize and a sad farewell goes to his pre- decessor W02 Taff Terriza on posting to Minden. Good Luck Taff! Postings for the future include Lance Corporal Derek Conway to the Falklands and Corporal Des Bryson to Germany. The Regiment has again requested help to assist in Belize in the shape of Private Pete Lenton. Good luck Pete watch out for the mosquitos! Our congratulations go to Private Taff Weaving, on his recent marriage. Thanks Taff for the great reception, the things some people will do to get away early from exercise! ASU CATTERICK. By way of commemorating the Centenary, the AA College at Harrogate recently very kindly allowed us the use of the Sergeants Mess where, with the Commander Supply, thirty of us sat down to a splended luncheon. It was the first time for about a year that we had gathered together and there is no doubt that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves (some, indeed, more than others!) In some respects it was a pity that many of our colleagues could not attend because of leave, distances etc . . . . Next time perhaps? We extend a very warm welcome to George Penrose and Derek Evans who joined the ASU in September as ASAs. YORK DETACHMENT ARMY LEGAL GROUP UK. York Detachment became operational on 1st October 1982. Fortunately the Chief Clerk, Staff Sergeant Dave Cerqua himself had been in situ prior to the opening. During this busy period he had managed to dislodge the Army Costings and Accounting Team from their office accommodation and fought a rearguard action to hold his new territory; the District Study Team looking for various accommodation for the Padre, Resettlement Team etc. However, this won he managed to provide all necessary furniture, office equipment etc (including all relevant files from Wilton and Aldershot Detachments and a complete Legal Library from DALS in Lansdowne House. Devolution was finally here. The Detachment is now settled well in and business is boom- ing. Both disciplinary and Legal Aid advises are being dealt with promptly and hopefully efficiently, and being in the local area we give a more personal service to units and individuals in this district as well as North West District and Scotland. — 220 — |
