Transcription 22 ORDNANCE COMPANY(V).
The highlight of any unit in
the Territorial Army is Annual Camp and in August this year
we spent our Annual Camp at Barry Buddon in Scotland.
Training carried out was RPC upgrading and trade training.
We also carried out some adventurous training which consisted
of canoeing, parascending, ski-ing on the dry slope of Condor,
and for the less active members of the Company deep sea fishing.
All members of the Company have their own tales to tell about
the adventurous training especially the fishermen who on one
day brought in seventy pounds of fish and those that got away
would have emptied the North Sea of fish forever.
This year's camp was Major Stan Loynes' last camp with
the Company and after twenty six years and twenty five camps
with the RAOC he has moved over to 223 Field Ambulance as
Training and Recruiting Officer. We would like to take this
opportunity to thank him for all he has done and wish him and
his family well with RAMC.
In Major Loynes place is Major J. W. Morgan. We would
like to extend to him and his family a very warm ' welcome to
Middlesbrough' and wish them a happy tour of duty with
the Territorial Army.
Central Ordnance Depot Donnington
VISITORS this month included Colonel Henry and Mr Ferrari
of New Cumberland Army Depot, USA, accompanied by
Major Roger Buffham.
They had a complete tour of the
Depot with an emphasis on systems and management. Doctor
Sweeting, Head of Business Studies at Manchester, also visited
to see if what he preaches to RAOC officer students is put over
in practise.
15 Battalion
HEADQUARTERS
COMPANY.
Major Chris Burrow has
been lost at sea again, feeding the fish in the English Channel
or practising for Exercise Winters Tale. Rumour has it that
Rod Stewart is going to sign him up for his new video ' I am
Sailing.'
Congratulations go to Lance Corporal Des and Sally Aaron
on the birth of their daughter Gemma. We say farewell to
Sergeant Hotchkiss and Private Sandford on detachment to the
Falkland Islands, and welcome Corporal Kay to the QMs
Department and Privates Rood and Kiddell to the Orderly
Room.
Second Lieutenant Paul Harrold, from 72 Company (V),
has joined the training wing for three weeks in lieu of his annual
TA Camp. He arrived in time to help Staff Sergeant Parker with
the training of nineteen students on the RPC2 Course and has
had a week at Leek Training Area as part of his bargain
break.
'A' COMPANY.
The OC, Major Ian McKinnon, has departed
along with Lance Corporals Briggs and Couchman to the
holiday isle in the South. Corporal Caffrey has departed to a
slightly warmer place in Belize. We wish them all well and
also Lance Corporals Candelent and Bannister.
Lieutenant David Cousins has arrived to fill the vacant
OC's chair for a while and can be seen wandering the Depot
mumbling ' But I came here as Training Officer'! and looking
shell shocked with responsibility.
Congratulations go to Private Ian and Mrs Underhill on
the birth of their son, Gareth, and Private and Mrs Peebles
on the arrival of their daughter, Michelle. Further welcomes
are to Corporals McKenna and Watkyns, back from Belize, and
Lance Corporal McCaffrey, Privates Went, Saffill and Keilaus
on their arrival in Donnington.
'B' COMPANY.
Having achieved a notable success in win-
ning the 15 Battalion Swimming Gala, ' B ' Company gladiators
have done it again by finishing first and second in the hockey
six-a-side competition.
Under the able management of Team Captain Corporal
John Ravenall, the teams did exceptionally well. The 'A'
Team consisted of WOl Brian Coffey, Corporals John Ravenall
and Chris Pollock, Lance Corporal Percival and Private Mick
O'Neill. WOl Brian Coffey, our resident RCT Movement Ad-
viser, amazed everyone with his long shots upfield and dented
a few of the opposition's ankles! Whilst Corporal Chris
Pollock, the Regimental Team goalkeeper, kept all but the
most daring of attacks at bay.
The ' B ' Team was led by WOl Mick Mays who could not
refuse the invitation to return from retirement and show all the
young lads how to perform. He was well supported by Corporal
Pete Still, Lance Corporals Dave Pearson, Eric Maclvcr, Nick
Carey and Major Martin Hicks who filled the goalmouth.
Not wishing to rest on their laurels ' B ' Company's 'A'
Team then went on to win the Inter-Company Six-a-Sidc Foot-
ball. The team consisted of Lance Corporals Dave Pearson
and Mac McGhie. Privates Dave Dunne, Chris Collings. John
Tymon and Taff Pugh. Lance Corporal McGhie. the Battalion
goalkeeper, played centre-forward for the team and scored a
hat-trick in the four one win over 'A' Company in the Final
(is this hidden talent?).
We welcome WOl Taff Horner back from F1LOG who has
noticed the lack of penguins in B5. WOl Alan Frccmantlc has
taken over from WOl Mick Mays in B2 and is now savouring
the delights of managing a mixed workforce.

PLANNING BRANCH.
M e m b e r s of
Planning Branch recently assembled for
Exercise ' Swelter be toil Force' (anag).
No not a regimental exercise, this was
simply the last meeting of the present
escape committee. When I tell you it was
!%
*s?*~ held in the Club Room of the Tally Ho
Inn at Arnott perhaps all will now be-
come clear. The ' exercise ' coordinators
Major Peter Hamp (off to civilian life) and
W02 Alan Tilley (off to BAOR and pro-
motion) were the last of the ' Famous
Three Escapers' as WOl Pramod (Tikki)
Tikerman had already by this time left for pastures new at
Thatcham. To all three our best wishes in their new posts. To
the two branch 'new boys' Captain Jim Bridle and WOl Julian
Thompson welcome.
Also worth a mention this month is W02 Colin Dewsbury
our intrepid fisherman. Colin deserves our congratulations on
his recent selection to fish for the army in an interservice match.

1 SUB-DEPOT.
We were visited by Major General Webster
last month. He was shown both the old and new storehouse
accommodation within the Sub-Depot, which included an on-
going re-roofing contract. We welcome the following new staff
to our fold: Mr Carroll (ex-W02, RAOC), Mr Herriott, Mr
Keefe, Mrs Edwards, Mrs Veasey, Miss Cox and Miss Rennic.
2 SUB-DEPOT.
Our WRAC contingent have done well at
sport this month, playing rounders for South East District West
in the Army Inter-Unit Competition and only just being beaten
into second place. The 2 Sub girls playing were Sergeant Sue
Squires, Corporal Linda Watson, Lance Corporal Ali Bache,
Privates Helen Holman, Lyn Reece, Les Kennington, Karen
Tinsdeall and Liz Storr. Virtually the same girls represented
Bicester at hockey the same weekend with the addition of
W/Privates June Bowie, Donna Myers and Taff Berry. The
hockey team came nineteenth from thirty six teams. Well
done to all concerned.
Lance Corporals George Bailey and John Edwards' good
ladies gave birth to baby boy and girl respectively. All mothers
and children are doing well.
Congratulations to Lance Corporal Leslie Brownsword on
her well deserved promotion, it's amazing what a haircut or two
can do.
We welcome to MacColls marauders W/Corporal Scooby
McDonald, W/Private Les Kennington, Privates Chris Panaro,
Alan Burgess and Corky Corcoran. We hope your stay in 2
Sub will be enjoyable.
We say farewell to Staff Sergeants Mike Farebrother who
has packed his fishing tackle for Belize, to Corporal Carol
Wilson, Lance Corporal Ali Bache and to W/Privates Pat
Foxley and Lyn Johnson. We wish you well and thank you for
your efforts while you were here.
16 Battalion
BATTALION HEADQUARTERS. The main topic of interest has
been Staff Sergeant Dennis Palmer (known as the Oracle) who has
taken a couple of well earned weeks leave (it should be noted
that the Chief Clerk had to physically place him on the platform
at Bicester Station to ensure he got away!). The Chief himself
is waiting for his wife to produce an increase to the family
(it's rumoured that this is the only way he can get any leave).
We say farewell to Lance Corporal Los Jeens and Private
John Price on posting to FILOG and welcome Privates Paul
Gregory to the engine room and Jim Galloway.
