temporarily from the golf course due to local weather conditions —it's too hot. The other staff clerk is Sergeant Dave Forsyth who is known to spend some of his time on the tennis court. Things are looking up for him at the moment as his promotion is due in the very near future and his extension has been agreed. TECHNICAL STORES. For the four RAOC Musketeers at Mishrif, life at the sharp end can be tough. We do however, receive the occasional bulletin from Headquarters KLT that reassures us that we have not been entirely forgotten. At the head of our four man advisory team is Major John McConvillc (Rctd) (late RAOC). The remainder (the workers) consist of WOsl Fred Dippnall, Mick Tipper and Des Chapman. WO I Graham Manders and family have just joined the fold, a big welcome and we trust your stay here in Q8 will be a happy one. We can assure you it will be different anyway. AMMUNITION TECHNICIANS. Staff Sergeant Alan Sadding- ton conducts the Workshop when the air-conditioning is function- ing. Otherwise he closes Rugby Clubs and breaks down in his car. W02 Jim Ball attempts the rest—sadly, they keep waking him. Dick Jordan wanders out of the sand with a doleful ' carry on, chaps, got to " and having spoke wanders on. In truth, a gruntled lot. B ATUS A twenty degrees centigrade drop in temperature has seen parka order as the latest fashion, even indoors. Even so the Company is still busy; Staff Sergeant Law of Kit Stores is handling one crisis after another, POL Section under the steady hand of W02 Alan Hannah are having a ' smashing' time and Tank Shed looking like Steptoe's Yard as the battlegroup season draws to an end. In the Local Purchase Office Corporal Derek Rothwell and Miss Donna Closs have been holding the fort whilst Staff Sergeant Neil Quin is on leave coupled with Sergeants Mess PEC duties. It's a real tough life here! Although recent events have seen the Ordnance Company float, architected by W02 Barrie Fisk BEM and his merry band of pressed volunteers, win the Ralston Day Parade Trophy. Well done Golddiggers! The Inter Company Floor Hockey Competition saw a bruising but enjoyable time for all teams yet Major Andy Collis led a skilful group to emerge as clear winners with dazzling play from Captain Mike Parle, Sergeants Dick Partridge and Duncan Murdoch, Corporal Paul Marson and Lance Corporal Alan Vick. In the meantime Second Lieutenant Guy Slater and WOl (Cdr) Lawrence masterminded a cricket victory against the RCT and then proceeded to go sailing off the shore of Vancouver with Corporal John King and recently promoted to Lance Corporal, Paul Duncalf. Congratulations Paul! Force Ordnance Company Belize OUR strength is too numerous to mention individually by name, so I'll start with a few of the celebrities. The OC of Force Ord Coy (FOC to the regulars) is Major Dobie, no doubt remembered by past members of the unit who will now be muttering to their-selves " I s he still there?" He is assisted by Captain Inions who is considered by most of us to be quite a new boy as he can count the weeks he's done out here on one hand. In the driving seat of the C Sups Plan is Captain Hudson with Lieutenant Williams who will soon be leaving to go on his commando course. Now that the celebrities have been mentioned perhaps postees in would like to know a little about Belize, the land of Sun, Sea, Sand, Separation Allowance and LOA. Actually Belize isn't as bad as rumoured so if you're ' listed ' don't despair. FOC itself is a very composite Ordnance Com- pany, and we give service to the whole of British Forces Belize. Rations by Sergeant Steve Edge, POL, led by W02 Rick Ruddy, Ammunition by W02 Ian Moore. In charge of the Force ' rent a car' is Sergeant Dochcrty on detachment from Ashchurch. Over in the PC and A we have Staff Sergeant Craister, while in the Storehouse is Staff Sergeant Jim Foster with his guide and mentor Private Bliss. Over in ASU Staff Sergeant Tom Stevenson flits from place to place looking for new hirings. Steering all is our Chief Clerk, Sergeant Ron Conway the only man to have two typists Dawn and Linda and no clerk (poor devil). This month we participated in a unit sports competition, we acquitted ourselves quite well. The only casualty being Sergeant Mick Atkins our volley ball player. He's still wandering about in a daze scratching his head and wondering why he was dragged out at six o'clock in the morning to take place in the team six mile road run. Oh the power of a Chief Clerk is wondcrous to behold. He still insists he wasn't last as behind him was the recovery vehicle! Today we said goodbye to Captain Eric Cook our out- going OIC C Sups Pin whom we all wish the very best at Cattcrick, hope you looked out of the window when the plane whisked you away to see us all waving! Royal Brunei Malay Regiment THE main event in Brunei this month is the start of the Sultans Birthday Celebrations, this is when the people of Brunei hold numerous colourful parades, pageants and sports events in honour of their ruler. In the Sultans Birthday Honours List, awards were bestowed on Lieutenant Colonel Kirby (previous OC Logs) and WOl Meachen (now a ' M r ' and working for Vospers UK)—Congratulations to them both. During school childrens holidays Brunei is an ideal jumping off point for visiting places in the Far East, most people manage to get away for a well needed break. Major Alan Butterworth and family toured Malaysia, Captain Colin Kennedy, WOsl Arthur Burns and Jack Leek and families visited Thailand. WOsl Peter Beatty and Mick Rushbrook holidayed in Hong Kong. WOl Peter Beatty's (Flotilla Stores Section) hard luck story of the month, is that on his return from Hong Kong he was told he had to go off on Exercise with RBMR Flotilla to Singapore!— Wait for it—his Field Location was the Marco Polo Hotel on Orchard Road—Who said " It's hard beeing a Pongo in Muara." News from our two stalwarts at the Rapier stores section in the Tutong area. On a maritime theme, the latest hand to join the Logistics boat owners fleet is WOl Mick Rushbrook. He was recently spotted having trouble getting his engine started, after a great deal of mutterings etc, along came a good Samaritan who quickly righted the problem and allowed our sailor to go on his fishing trip—never mind Mick anyone can put a propellor on back to front! Congratulations are in order for the other half of the stores section, W02 Paul Sutterby who recently received his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal from Brigadier John Friedberger at a ceremony held at the Tutong WOs and Sergeants Mess. We recently bade farewell to Major Mike Harris and family who have gone back to the petrol world at Bournemouth. In his place we welcome "Major John Nevill and family. WOl Sam Talakuli—believe it or not—has finally departed the shores of Brunei, it was only a commission that could drag him away. A large group of friends gathered at the airport to see Sam and Adi off in style and to wish them every success for the future. A sad note to end on for all you RBMR Old Boys—the Loan Service Pay and LOA have recently been increased, it's a hard life! Stop Press. Everyone is now looking forward to the visit of HH Prince Charles scheduled for the forthcoming Brunei In- dependence Celebrations in February 1984. — 238 — REMEMBER THE DEADLINE FOR COPY —28th OF EACH MONTH — WITH THE EDITOR AT DEEPCUT |
