RETIREMENT
OF
MAJOR
WOOD
16 BATTALION Officers Mess recently dined out Monty and
Brenda Wood on their retirement from the Army.
Major Wood's military career spans thirty years and began
when he was called up as a National Serviceman at Hilsea.
He was discharged from the Army two years later having
reached the rank of Sergeant and re-enlisted the following day!
He went on to serve in UK, BAOR and Cyprus and was the RSM
of the Apprentices College in the days when it was called the
Junior Leaders Battalion.
all such submissions will be considered by the Central Funds
Executive Committee who will make the grants they consider
appropriate.
Every member of the Corps, not in an RAOC unit, who
considers that he has a case for a grant in aid of a sport, ad-
venturous activity or special project for which no formal Corps
Committee exists, may make his application direct to the Corps
Secretary. Such bids must reach the Corps Secretary by 1st
February or 1st September each year.

AT the inaugural meeting for the 1983/84 Small Bore Season
held in the Reed Lounge of the Cannons Club, St George's

team which came second in the Home Cup during the 1982/83
Season, being only sixteen points behind RAOC BAOR.
Our final scores were: —

He was commissioned in 1971 his final appointment being
that of Quartermaster of 16 Battalion.
Monty was presented with a replica of ' Mi Mi's Rickshaw'
—the QM's handcart which mysteriously went missing during
Monty's term of office in 16 Battalion—it is rumoured to be
in BAOR; could this in fact be misinformation and that it has
really been dismantled and spirited away to Cyprus—perhaps one
day the mystery will be unfolded.
We wish Monty and Brenda a safe, happy and prosperous
future in their new life in Cyprus.

PROJECTS
SENIOR
ONE welcome result of widespread support for the RAOC
Soldier's One Day's Pay Scheme will be a more liberal avail-
ability of money to fund Corps and units sports, special activities
and projects. The formal instructions on this are contained in
Corps Instruction No. 610.
The Central Funds Executive Committee reserve a sum of
money each year to help individuals, groups and units who, by
their sporting or adventurous activities and the sponsorship of
special projects, bring credit to the Corps or benefit to its
members. When these activities involve the individual, group,
or unit, in significant private expense, the Committee consider
making a grant as a contribution to funding the project.
Any member of the Corps who wishes to be considered for
a grant for a Corps sport from this fund should make his
request to the Chairman of the sport concerned by 1st January
or 1st August each year. Other than for a Corps sport, any
applicant in an RAOC Unit should submit his bid through his
Commanding Officer. The case, with the support of the Chair-
man or Commanding Officer, must reach the Corps Secretary
by 1st February or 1st September each year. After which,
