Ireland problem. The Supt Clerk is looking for ways of computerising the Headquarters since attending the first Info Technology Course at the School of Ordnance. He has not had much success so far, perhaps the WAVELL System could be in- stalled in Headquarters Northern Ireland. The clerks could then be more conscientious about their coffee making. Sergeant Sid Siddiqui sent us a wedding invitation, we couldn't attend as it was in Karachi! He assures us it all went successfully and we now hardly ever see him as he is always on a forty eight hour pass. His long suffering Corporal, Mick Blake is even more in charge than he used to be. We soon say farewell to Corporal Sue Jones, who is being posted to Catterick—once she gets married to Signalman Snowy Buckley. We wish them all the very best for the future. Corporal Liz Gordon takes over Sue's job as G3 Plans/G5 Clerk. She is pleased to have a regular job at last and we know she'll enjoy it. I've told her so—it's easier than when I did it in 1970! We must make mention here of the results of the 1983 Northern Ireland RAOC Golf Championships:—Individual Handicap—First, Staff Sergeant Keith Straugher; Second, Staff Sergeant Charlie Whitley; Third, Sergeant Cliff Rittock. Pairs, Charlie and Cliff who beat the REME. AH this was done at the Lisburn Golf Club in very windy conditions. The wind may well account for Charlie's high placing! Ordnance Depot Northern Ireland WOOLLIE PULLIES are back in fashion and the last of the sun tans are fading away. The cricket season is over (just as we were getting into our stride). Hockey sticks, soccer, rugby boots and BFTs are once again the order of the day. Colonel Futrell paid us a visit to carry out our Technical Inspection. We assume all went well as nothing yet has been heard. During his stay, Colonel Futrell took the opportunity to get in an afternoons golf. He was accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Weatherburn and W02 Keith Wick (VSD). The IRAOC was most impressed with W 2 Wick's remarkable hole-in-one. (He fell down a well camouflaged pit on the golf course). The CO said it cheered him up on what was somewhat a cold and wet afternoon. Captain Ron Chisholm (OC VSD) has now returned from his MTO course. Congratulations to him and Captain Roger Walls on selection for OEO. We wish the SSO/2IC Major Terry Ewers good luck on his forthcoming Operation (Military?) and his contribution towards defence cuts. The Choir Master will be pleased! Lance Corporal Sharon Conyon WRAC (Sups SD) has recently become engaged to an anonymous Corps member. Does anyone know who he is? WOl Eric Hunter (Sups SD) successfully returned from his Service Funds Accounts Course. Congratulations to: Corporal Pearson and his wife Tamsin on the birth of a boy. All are doing well. A/Corporal Geordie Kelso (Headquarters) and Lance Corporal Mick Charnley (ASD) on provisional selection for promotion to Corporal. Lance Corporal Tommy Boyce, Privates Andy Clark and Lips Wootton on obtaining their RPC 2 qualification. Farewell to: Staff Sergeant Geoff Davis (POL) to West- moors, Sergeant Denis Head (VSD) and family to BATUS, Corporal Ken Wakefield (POL) to FILB, Corporal Billy Mac- Gregor back to Antwerp after his six months attachment, Lance Corporal Keith Barrett and family to Cyprus, Lance Corporal Steve Day and family to BAOR and Private Jock Henderson RPC also to BAOR. We say hello to: Sergeant Mike Lloyd (VSD), Lance Corporal John Maloney (VSD) and family, Lance Corporal Paul Hopcraft (VSD), Private Mike Doyle RPC (VSD) and young Private John MacDougall to Sups SD. Headquarters Scotland WHAT now seems to be the weekly battle fitness test has reared its head again and the Edinburgh Tourists have searched for their version of ' Nessie' in the BFT pot- holes in Craigiehall roads. To this must be added those certain pointers to winter, first aid, NBC and ranges. We look for- ward to the coming of spring! The fishermen are slowly closing their i,'''?i\ season and eating well to boot, whereas our golfers, despite playing splendid in- stitutions like the local Royal Navy, have a markedly empty trophy cabinet. Come back MacKinnon, something is forgiven. :tf^d$f M — 261 It's last day duties for Miss Audrey Dures and Major Donald W a y . Of our retired officers, sixty seven per cent have gone to their winter hibernation in London and Spain but this paucity of workers is slightly relieved by the arrival of Staff Sergeant R. Ledingham, who is passing through, anticipating doing remark- able things at the Scottish Division Depot Aberdeen and Private Milne on detachment from 81 Ordnance Company. At the same time, ROWO Swann (of that fast disappearing breed of Master Butchers) is developing quite the most sophisticated blend of resettlement courses and keeping Scottish units ' matters com- bat supply' on their toes. Major Powell? Well, it appears that the Highlanders are less prepared to talk to him now he is preparing a massed corps of drums (and flutes) package for next year's Berlin Tattoo. Do not visit his home for currently it is over-run with tape recorders, mixers, microphones and little black dots all over the floor. Perhaps things will settle when his first, Scottish Piping Museum emerges in a couple of years time. ACCOMMODATION SERVICES UNIT, SCOTLAND. It was a double retiral occasion recently when all Unit Members past and present, including many friends from far and wide, assembled at the Forthside RAOC Association Rooms to bid farewell and happy retirement to our Officer Commanding, Major Donald Way and Miss Audrey Dures our long serving Quarter- ing Clerical Officer. Major Way joined the RASC in 1946 as a Staff Clerk re- badged into the corps as the result of McLeod re-organisation in 1965, he has served in many stations including Japan, Jamaica, Korea, Malaya and Hong Kong with a few tours in Scotland in between. Donald and his wife Mary have decided to retire in Stirling. They were presented with a Walnut Stereo Cabinet by our Commander Supply, Lieutenant Colonel John Hambly. Audrey Dures, a local Stirling lassie, joined the Civil Service towards the end of the Second World War in the Ministry of Food something to do with Ration Books, Orange Juice and Cod Liver Oil. Audrey later served with the Garrison Engineers and Command Ordnance Depot, in 1970 she was transferred to Accommodation Services Unit. Audrey will be best remem- bered for her enthusiastic contribution to the social aspect of employment, she was a prominent member cf CPSA and Whitley Council and a qualified First Aider. On Charity and Retire- ment Collections she was a great persuader. Major Way per- formed his last military duty in presenting Audrey with a Fridge Freezer. We wish them both a long and happy retirement. We welcome Allan Cleasby from BAOR and look forward to the return of Captain Peter Hawkins from the Falklands. Stores Section 3 6 Command Workshop THE last vestiges of a long hot summer have disappeared to be replaced with more characteristic Essex coastal damp, fog and generally soggy days as winter approaches. Favourable omens so far for our re-build as the site swarms with contractors, surveyors and other assorted building-site types. Meanwhile internal re-organisation and rescaling keep all hands busy. Farewell and best wishes to Diana Allport, Karen Woodward and Denis Edwards; welcome to Steve Goodbourne, Jayne Ashby and John Rogers. — |
