Transcription North East District and
Second Infantry Division
SUPPLY BRANCH.
Lieutenant Colonel
Reg Cooley (Retd) (S02 Accn Svcs and
Wisdoms Man in the North) has enjoyed
most of the past month in Bermuda con-
versing about cricket, sun, sea, sand and
rum punches, which doesn't happen often
to most of us. Just prior to flying off
Colonel Reg had the distinction and no
doubt great personal pleasure of inter-
viewing Sir Len Hutton of Yorkshire and
England cricket fame.
'Twas a perplexed young soldier at the King's Division Depot
who, shielding his eyes against the light, tested his PULHEEMS
rating by trying to locate the whereabouts of a male cry for
help reaching his untrained ear across grassy acres. Now,
well on his way to SNCO no doubt, said Sprog was eventually
to open (what is described as a self locking door) enabling a
much relieved Major (Retd and revitalised) Pat McDowell to
renew his acquaintance with the World after an hours absence.
That is what happens to Ordnance Inspecting Officers who give
a unit a hard time!
We welcome back into the fold our Chief Clerk Staff Sergeant
Mel Kingston who doesn't feel inclined to promote tourism in the
South Atlantic after missing the best English summer for years.
It is good to have you back Staff which is no doubt echoed by
your family.
Major John Hammond (Skipper) and Captain Jack Redfern
(OIC Cricket) assisted York Garrison to bring to Imphal Barracks
the Yorkshire Services League Cricket Cup. Obviously at their
peak at forty?
Mesdames Margaret and Thelma have rejoined the staff
after convalescence much to Major Ken Cobournes relief—nice
to have you back ladies.
HEADQUARTERS
15 INFANTRY
BRIGADE
OUR first and successful annual camp took place on Salisbury
Plain Training Area. Seven of our TA combat units plus our
recovery company, a field ambulance and a detachment from
our provost company took part. Each unit carried out an in-
tensive individual training programme as well as a two-day
Brigade FTX. In addition three thousand Brigade troops watched
a fire power demonstration carried out by the School of Infantry.
Towards the end of the two weeks we hosted an international
press day with over forty military reporters attending from many
top newspapers, including representatives from Germany, Holland,
Japan and Portugal. Peter Snow of Newsnight fame joined the
group to -carry -out some personal research,. thoroughly enjoy-
ing himself playing with the infantry weapons.
HEADQUARTERS 24 INFANTRY
BRIGADE
AT last pen has been put to paper, after returning to the UK
from BAOR as part of 2nd Infantry Division, we have delayed
the writing of these notes far too long.
Congratulations are in order for our Supt Clk WOl Gerry
Crossland for being provisionally selected for a commission.
Meanwhile, Corporal Ken Meek has just completed his EPC
and is eagerly awaiting the results, also congratulations to his
wife Trish on the birth of Kelly Ann in May.
Corporal Ken Higgins is trying harder every day to look like
Mr ' T ' right down to the hair style.
Sergeant Graham Orr is pottering around with his newly
acquired home computer—wonder it he can get a Man Manage-
ment Programme?
We say farewell to Private ' Sundy' Sunderland who is
destined for ' higher' things in joining 5 Infantry Brigade. We
all wish him luck and welcome Private Charlie Herbert from
Blackdown and also Sergeant Mac McAuliffe our new NBC
NCO from 1 Green Howards.

The list of farewells this month would not be complete without
making special mention of WOl ' Mat' Matakitoga who was the
WOIC RAOC Stores Section att 22 Engineer Regiment Work-

Western District
HEADQUARTERS.
Visitors to Shrews-
bury may think they had arrived in time
for Rag Week when they see the weird
attired trio panting through the town at
lunch times. It is in fact the DOWO,
ROWO and Chief Clerk in frenzied train-
ing for the BFT test. They have not been
joined by the two eligible officers in the
Branch who will no doubt surprise us
all on the day.
Major Walker and Staff Sergeant Dickson are in hard
training for the Corps Squash Championships and we wish them
every success in the competition.
S02 (Mat) is back in his office for rest and recuperation
after a strenuous holiday in Barbados, some people have all
the luck! We are pleased to have the ROWO back at work
after his trip to the South Atlantic.
REGIONAL DEPOT HEREFORD.
Supplies Sub-Depot were
pleased to receive a visitation from The Exchequer and Audit
Team for one week during September, everything went fine
and the OIC, Captain Charles Davenport, is now looking his
more usual cool, calm and collected self again.
W02 Steed, Royal New Zealand Army, currently on Exercise
Long Look paid us a visit W02 Steed toured all areas of the
Depot and I am glad to report he was most impressed with the
facilities we have here.
