Uncle Tom Cobley and all—sorry I forgot myself. Lastly on the
sporting scene we must not forget Corporal Frank Sheehan who
it would appear is the only member of the RAOC in BAOR who
can count past one because during the summer he was in constant
demand as a Cricket Scorer.
Congratulations go to Sergeant Steve Oxley and his wife
on the birth of a daughter in June.

Inventory Control Point BAOR
JUST a few lines to let you know that ICP is alive and well.
To all who imagined that we had disappeared under the mass of
paper that arrives here daily, the answer is no we haven't and the
reason for our absence from these columns is that we didn't have
anyone here who could do joined up writing—but we've got a
Staff Clerk now!
Since our last letter we have had many visits, not the least
of which was the DGOS. It is thought by the non-Computer
orientated members of staff, that our visitors from DSCS are
related in some way to Tarzan, he of the jungle and not of
Whitehall fame and are all under thirty because all they can seem
to say when asked what they would like to see, is—ME 29.
(Note: A new computer.)
On the Sports scene ICP continue to support the RAOC
Viersen teams noteably cross country (W02 Peter Marsh) hockey
(Major Frank Ham and Keith Jeffreys) and golf three of the
winning foursome of the Rhine Area Winter League coming from
the unit—Messrs Horton, Eden and Sargeant.
In addition to our participating gladiators, the unit also
provides several of the BAOR hockey umpires namely George
HAVING just completed a harrowing week
during Exercise Plain Sailing the staff of
Headquarters Rhine Area are settling down
to (or should I say climbing up) the mountain
of paper which amassed during our absence.
Congratulations to Staff Sergeant Tosh Stokes
for maintaining sanity whilst thousands of
signals poured across his desk in the RDC.
Well done too to Sergeant George Lead-
bitter who, between coffee and smoke breaks,
managed to put in an appearance in the Ops Cell. Corporal
Pete Cheeseman also appeared to be losing the war; as fast
as he was losing weight tearing round the Ops Room he simply
put it all back on again by demolishing three square and hearty
meals a day. Our thanks also go to Corporal Sheila Day and
Lance Corporal Bev Purdie our WRAC stalwarts who both
provided sterling support throughout Your joint request that the
Top team provide us with a Mr Exercise for next time will be
passed on. We must not forget our supporting team from Head-
quarters BAOR. Sergeants John Barry and Jim Beattie from AMIS,
Sergeant Owen Rodden RRF from BRSC and Lance Corporal
Martin Heron WRAC (Teleprint Operator supreme) from G3
O and D. We could not have survived without them. Praises
should also include Corporal Anne Wegner WRAC who,
devastated by missing the Exercise, kept the Headquarters ticking
over together with the civilian staff in our absence.
Finally, since our last submission, we have said farewell to
the Supt Clerk, WOl Ray Goff, who is off to sunny Salisbury.
We have just learned too of his commissioning selection, well
done Ray and lots of future success to you, Jenny and the family.

VIERSEN
MAJOR GENERAL WHALLEY recently visited the unit to-
gether with Mrs Whalley. Our photograph shows Mrs Whalley
taking coffee at the Wives Club.
It is time to mention the cricket team, who to finalise a
fine season, won the DOS (BAOR) Cricket Cup. No doubt
W02 Terry Reifer will be sadly missed as he has now bought
snow shoes and fur lined parkas for his last innings in Barbados.
Corporal Speedy Elstub has promised to provide the dogs and
sledge!
More topical at this time of year is football. Already
Viersen has made its mark by beating 26 Engineer Regiment three
two in the Major Units Cup, and drew four all with 227 Signal
Squadron in the North Rhine Inter Service Knockout Cup.
(We'll get them in the replay says sixty four year old Charlie
Johnson, or was it Chalkie White?).
Corporal Mark Foreman endeavouring to understand how Corporal
Paul Axford could be in the RAPC and the Corps at the same
time.
W e welcome Paul to the Corps as a Supply Controller.
Mrs Whalley visits the Viersen Wives Club.
