Lance Corporal Brian Murdoch is playing). Corporal ' Parts * Hughes tested the theory that drinking large amounts of German beer is the secret of success for those keen on bowling. This is clearly true, since he won the main prize of the evening. The strain of Major Peter Timothy's Battle PT sessions is clearly telling, however, as Corporal ' Dapper' Howes has promised to participate next time, but only under the MOs orders. We congratulate the following promotees: Sergeant Paul Frostick (S/Sgt), Corporal Martin Moorhouse (Sgt), Lance Corporals John Norris and Rash Murphy (Cpls) and welcome to the ranks of substantive leaders Lance Corporals Paul Chisholm and Brian Murdoch. Congratulations also go to Corporals Gary and Theresa (nee Nelhams) O'Hara, Lance Corporal Brian and Private Joyce (nee' Meek) Murdoch and Private Decca Metcalfe and Miss Debbie Morgan on their marriages. Finally, we welcome W02 Brown, Staff Sergeant Haddock, Sergeants Haley, Kershaw, Potter and O'Loughlin, and say goodbye to W02 Davies (who obviously has friends in high places as he goes to Brunei), and to Sergeants McGrath, Winter, Lawrence and Corporal Tressler. Stop Press: Congratulations to Captain Steve Smith on passing his Pre-Ops EOD Course. Captain Thompson under instruction from Major Foxton and W 2 (SQMS) Burnett the 1 1 Ordnance Company COFFER King. 1st British Corps insurmountable problems. Not least of which was where to plug the kettle now that all the sockets are used. A simple solution—in the Second-in-Commands office. All this and twenty three units concurrently exercising near Soltau and asking for our support—rumours of a wind-down tour at Hereford following a posting to Soltau have been denied. Our customary welcomes to Second Lieutenant France, Private Shaw and Craftsmen Brierley and WagstafF. Fare- wells to Sergeant Beesley, Privates Bobbett and Lewis. Finally, Second Lieutenant Sanderson vows never to become the RAOC (BAOR) under twenty one Orienteering Champion again. His prize? A free Christmas holiday for one in the South Atlantic! 13 ORDNANCE COMPANY THE month started with the vehicle PRE inspection. The MT Section, along with as many ' volunteers ' as possible, grafted long hours trying to make the vehicles presentable, although our cause was not helped by being deployed on Active Edge just days before the inspection was due! However, the PRE went well—our thanks to those who worked so hard. Shortly afterwards came the company's first anniversary function which proved to be a successful evening, enjoyed by all. The entertainment was a disco, much to the annoyance of the CSM who prefers less noisy forms of entertainment which cost too much. The very next day was Dennis Barracks Open Day. The company put on an Eager Beaver show in the form of an obstacle course, ran a darts and lucky dip side show, ably sup- ported by the Wives Club selling bread and fresh vegetables. On the sporting front, certain fitness fanatics decided to run in the Berlin Marathon—or were they after a short holiday THIS has been a month of visits. First of all we saw the visit of Colonel Owen OIC M and RO who gave a very interesting talk to all RAOC personnel of Headquarters 1 (BR) Corps before setting off on a round of visits to the Ordnance Battalions within the Corps. These visits were, by all accounts, of much interest and help to serving RAOC personnel and we thank Colonel Owen for making the visit the success it was. Our able Staff Assistant, Mr Kelly and his ' sidekick' Major Peter Gibson travelled to Berlin to attend the Quarterly Ordnance Warrant Officers Quarterly Meeting. Also in at- tendance was W02 Ian Burn of the Australian Army and it is strongly rumoured that Mr Kelly is currently negotiating for the next meeting to be held in down-town Sydney! Mrs Marion Paviour was here for two weeks holiday and we hope she enjoyed her stay. During her visit Mrs Paviour spent an interesting and informative morning with 64 Ordnance Com- pany and toured their bakery. G1/G4 (Coord/Sports) events recently have had a maritime flavour about them. A mixed party of seven soldiers sailed around Southern Norway in two Cornish Shrimper type boats for ten days. A great time was had by all, Sergeant Peter Jones, W/Private Dee Snijder from G1/G4 Coord returned with tanned faces and old salt tales. The heady days of summer are nearly over but not without the combined effort of Gl /4/5 Plans and Gl /4 Coord (Team ' G ') becoming joint winners of the Summer Coe Cup Sporting Competition, well done all! Event of note was the presentation of the BEM to Staff Sergeant Dave Flynn at the British Embassy Bonn, well done Dave from all of us. We welcome W/Corporal Lynda Taylor to G4, Sergeant Jones is empire building—beware! and we bid farewell to W/Lance Corporal Lynn Causer to the Lionheart Team. Welcome to WOl Ian Read, our new Assistant Supervising Officer who replaces WOl Alan Govier. Ian joins the cool atmosphere of this Headquarters after leaving the steamy heat of Kuala Lumpur. Congratulations to: Len King who after waiting patiently(!) for eighteen months was finally promoted to Staff Sergeant—he is now, just as patiently asking where he is to be posted; Ron Fishwick on his A / W 2 and Sergeant Pete Jones on his sub rank—are you all sharing the celebration bill? 1 Ordnance Battalion 11 ORDNANCE COMPANY THE statement: 'It'll be easier next week' has, with regard to work at any rate, began to wear just a little bit thin. Most of the company arrived back from leave in time to be pitched into a hectic round of exercises and border patrols. Not to mention the long awaited arrival of COFFER our tame (?) computer system. As a result of the latter the Stock Control office now looks like the flightdeck of the Tardis after having been fundamentally redesigned by the Daleks.' All praise, however, must go to W02 (SQMS) Bumett and his merry (?) band for overcoming seemingly — Herr Arthur Wiesing presents Frau Hannelore Dankert and Frau Barbara Plummer with bouquets of flowers on the occasion of receiving their twelve years of Meritorious W o r k Certificates at 13 Ordnance Company. 273 — |
