To FRANCE WITH THE B.E.F. 1914 Crossing to France and Journey Up Country 20th August Embarked from S o u t h a m p t o n D o c k s . B e r t h e d 7.30 a.m. Disembarked and by 2.30 p.m. were all ashore at No. 2 Rest Camp. Army Service Corps' badge. 24th August Entrained for Busigny (some distance beyond St. Quentin). 25 th August Reached St. Quentin at 12.30 a.m. and then whilst doing so a train of British sick and wounded passed through. This was at the time of the retreat from Mons and this was the reason for detrainment at St. Quentin instead of Busigny. 3.00 p.m. 25th August The retreat lasting 12 days to a point south of Paris beyond the River Seine. Wagoner 169 Sydney Ellis Leach bom at Beverley 1895. He was recruited by Frank Dee of Wood Hill farm, Sledmere, on 7th March 1913 at Cottam. The photograph shows Wagoner Leach in Army Service Corps uniform, complete with ammunition bandolier andridingcrop. 13 |
