Army to the rescue of homeless owls
BARNLESS barn owls will have new homes thanks to the generosity of the Army .
The Army at Bicester Ordnance Depot is help ing a project by two or nithologists , Mr Marek Nowakowski , of Chester ton , and Mr Peter Burman , of Banbury , to reintroduce barn owls into the area .
Two years ago they re leased three pairs of barn owls into separate secret locations within the depot .

Two pairs bred suc cessfully , producing ten birds .
To enable the project to continue nesting box es and roosting places were needed as there were no barns or simi lar suitable buildings in the depot .
Support
Two carpenters Jim O'Sullivan , of Danes Road , Bicester , and Wil liam Cooper , of Ruskin Walk , Bicester , made up , six nesting boxes out of scrap wood .
This week the boxes have been positioned into various locations in the depot .
Lt Col Gordon Geddie , CO of 16 Battalion of the RAOC at the depot , said : " We are interested in conservation and were pleased to support this project . Within the 30 square kilometres of the depot we have several suitable sites . "
Mr Nowakowski said : " Barn owls are in the same category of protec tion as eagles and os preys . We are both li censed by the Hawk Trust to carry out our project and have had an 80 per cent success rate in this region . "
