Activities . The following points were noted :
a . Coastal Walking . The route was shortened so that the finish point was at Millendreath Beach , where water sports were taking place . The students seemed to respond well to the " work hard - play hard " theory .
14 .
b . Rock Climbing and Abseiling . Two locations were used for this activity ; Dewerstone on the south west corner of Dart moor and Haytor Rocks on the north west corner . Both were quite technical for novices but with a good student / instructor ratio and an extra long rope for the 100 ft abseil at Dewerstone everyone enjoyed this activity . It is recommended that maximum use of new climbing wall at Reid House be used .
C. Canoeing . This activity was conducted off Millendreath Beach very successfully , along with windsurfing . There weren't however enough life jackets for every canoe and board and both the canoes and windsurfers were in a bad state of repair . It is recommended that unit funds be made available . to purchase a canoe trailer and that shelves be constructed in the windsurfing store to prevent equipment from becoming damaged .
d . Dingy Sailing . This unit was lucky enough to be allowed to use the facilities of the Joint Service Sail Train ing Centre at Stonehouse Bks . Dingy sailing was a very popular activity .
Dartmoor Navex . The letterboxing competition was cancelled after a careful recce of the area . It was decided instead to give the students a navex over the Dartmoor National Park . It was designed to test their map reading skills and see how they worked together in small groups .
e .
f . Optional Activities . The students were given one day in which they could choose their own activity , within limitations . Owing to good weather most people opted for water sports at the beach while others went mountain bike riding , ice skating and swimming .
EX ADMINISTRATION
13. Nominal Rolls . The ex initially was aiming at 30 personnel each week . However extra accommodation was made available at short notice which enabled visitors and additional personnel to be accommodated without any problems . Each Coy was asked to submit nominations well in advance , which they did . Of course due to working commitments the nominal rolls could not be confirmed until a few days before each phase .
ROUTINE ADMINISTRATION
a .
Administration . Generally run by the Adv Trg Offr as she was not required as an instuctor . It was very useful to have someone acting as co - ordinator at Tregantle Fort whilst the activities were going on .
